I don't think that's the case. Darkness is much more powerful because fear of the dark is something everyone is born with. We know that media can influence people's fears because that's how the gun devil became so powerful, and it was made clear that in the years before the massacre you could see guns everywhere in advertisements. If that was the case with chainsaws I think it would have been confirmed by now.
