I can't believe, out of any protagonist, in anime of all things, that people will say this one is a self insert. It's enough to make seethe, and it just shows how disconnected some of you faggots are from any other form of literary canon to think this way. All it boils down to is "different women seem to like him," but that's common in most anime, and frankly it makes more sense with Goblin Slayer.

There's an actual underlying psychological premise for "self-insert," or identification.
Just look at the most base elements of "self-inserts" in the regular sense. They embody attributes that almost anybody, but especially Japanese otaku, could hold. Which is often why typical Japanese protagonists are intentionally these scrawny weaklings who don't really go further from there, at the very least visually. And often, they have very limited sets of virtues. They're "nice guys." But they'll rarely have a realistic form of any type of devotion, to which it exhibits an authentic sacrifice or harsh detriment to themselves. And for most of these characters, even if they uncover some tumult, things just come together their way, mostly from external sources.
These are the most present in harems. Some shit happens, and then BAM, girls just don't like him, every girl likes him exclusively.

GS isn't a form of self-insert, he's a traditional hero, in the most mythological sense possible. People don't identify or "self insert" in the sense of most anime MCs. They identify with the character like he's Achilles, like a kind of heroic role model, in an Aristotelian sense. But neither Achilles or Odysseus get what they want, just because, they get it taken away as a key premise of their story. GS is imperfect, and even gets his ass kicked spectacularly (so does Odysseus, getting captured by Cyclops and getting a few men eaten). But he exhibits virtues, like cleverness and courage, to get past it.
