The 2020 reboot of "Digimon Adventure", imaginatively titled "Digimon Adventure:" (with that all-important colon) started on Sunday. It could be the first actually good Digimon series in years!

That they calm the fuck down a bit and go to the part where this is an adventure - having to explore and survive the Digital World with their partner digimon. Also that there's a hefty bit of mystery involved.

After watching the first episode my hope for this season is low, the "new" digital world is lifeless just blocks of blue and stuff, and theyre wanking the same two character and everyone else will be overshadowed, also more omegamon because fuck it why not? YGO new anime looks promising and pokemon new anime have a breath of fresh air and feels like an adventure, digimon on the otherhand is just a soulless reboot. Isnt it embarassing to be a digimon fan?
What exactly is it about Digimon that keeps bringing us all back? I feel like Digimon wasn't the BIGGEST show in my childhood yet when I look back at it and how it felt, it feels like it. It's been over 15 years now and Butterfly is my favorite song even though I didn't even grow up with it and went on to listen to it much later. And now I'm kinda excited to watch this reboot even though it'll be much shorter, and maybe even rewatch adventure and Frontier. What's the magic, Yas Forums?
It's obvious from the way he's acting that Koushirou doesn't really interact with kids close to his age, keeping in line with his portrayal in the original show. The way Taichi's able to immediately hit it off with him and make him feel comfortable is probably a testament to his leadership qualities.

Tone down the Our War Game vibes. That movie was only so good because the children involved were experienced in dealing with Digimon problems. Whole thing felt hollow in this episode.

I'm guessing they are leaving it for perfect/ultimate evolution. They did something similar in Appmon, the insert song was introduced very late into the series IIRC.

This is a good question. Seraphimon's not so much a jobber as really lackluster, though. He's appeared three times in the series (in Hurricane touchdown and then twice in tri) and has gotten pretty much no screen time whatsoever. Of course, the same is true for Holyangemon, but whenever he's appeared, he's been the focus of the action and kicked butt (despite losing to BlackWargreymon, who was a mega and established to be really op and Holyangemon only lost because BlackWargreymon destroyed the Holy Stone).
Seraphimon's reputation as a jobber comes from the entire franchise. To date, it's never won a single fight.

I think it's cause Seraphimon very first anime appearance had him job for V-mon line wank.
I wonder if this time they're playing it as Yamato being the Lone Ranger / Antagonist from the start and only joining the team later.
Tri dumpstered my expectations so hard that I'm not actually disappointed with this. Sure, not getting stuck in digiworld immediately is a huge departure from the original. But episode 1's story still had life-and-death stakes, which was what made survival in digiworld so serious. Tamers and Our War Game were mainly real world too. If we get a remake of OWG in expanded form, I'm ok with that.
I'm hoping they keep the character development arcs surrounding the crests. It could a good sign that they hinted at the crests already. Would be nice if they shortened the original's slow pacing at the beginning. But then again, it could also be a bad sign if it means crests are already activated and we don't get the activation arcs at all.

I fucking hope not. Yamato being naturally distant but looking out for his brother is more relatable and less played out. Plus seeing him disagree with Taichi's decisions over the course of the series and later having it bubble up into their two big spats was intense and rewarding.
One of Seraphimon's biggest banes is that it often appears in works with Royal Knights. Compared to Holy Knight Digimon, Seraphimon really isn't worth much.
I thought Last Kizuna Evolution was supposed to make up for how bad Tri was and had the original 01 people on it. Why does everyone hate it?

It's obvious that this show isn't trying to be exactly the same as the original. Not getting immediately stuck in the Digital World is probably meant to show that this isn't the same story.
Not many have seen it but the novel adaptation has been translated and apparently it isn't very good.

Seeing this scrappy little lizard fight really does make me happy. The Child Digimon rarely fought in the original show, and even when they did, it was just signature attacks. Hell, even Gomamon might get in on the action.
