Nothing is explained, by which I mean basic shit like what tech level is their world even supposed to have? They have bows and sniper rifles, clothes just random. Some characters have magic and there are supermutants and kroxigors I guess.

The setting is convoluted. There are 134 floors to the tower, each the size of a continent, sort of. The first floor is basically nothing, and there are an unknown number of floors above the 134th which can't be accessed. While there is communication and trade between floors, travel between them isn't that easy, so they're all different cultures with different populations. The tech level varies seemingly to give more variance to different groups. Generally though most tech is fairly similar in level though quite advanced, and above that it gets very expensive to improve but there are stupid levels of wealth. The people showing up are all basically chosen at random to challenge climbing the tower. So it's not like they went out and picked up supplies first, though most did start by wanting to climb the tower some people just seem to be picked without reason.
