Claymation is one of the best forms of animation
i agree, its also hard as fuck, i did it a little bit in high school because i thought it would be easy for whatever reason but its so fucking difficult and time consuming
I hope you're not implying a masterpiece like Chainsaw Maid isn't anime.
It's so good it shouldn't be allowed to be considered anime
claymation makes me sad. that poor mushroom
>because i thought it would be easy
Why the fuck would you ever think that?
It's okay, its a vegan dish.
because i was a retarded high schooler who overvalued my own worth
>claymation
What is that???
Now I just feel bad
Because most people don't know anything about animation and think the way it's done is easy
If it's made by Japs then sure. You'll need a really convincing argument otherwise.
its like
clay
and then mation
:DDDDDDD
Well, isn't the requirements just Japanese animation?
Good claymation is pure wizardry: youtube.com
i watch TBF, so i don't see why not
and whether it's anime depends on whether it's made by a japanese studio or not
Technical marvel aside, that movie is simply just good. A classic. Everyone should watch it.
I would like to see a behind the scenes for this movie, it's a classic
I always thought this kind of project is all about time and patience, what makes it actually hard?
I've never done clay but consistency is hard between two photographs let alone 2000 a minute.
Because in addition to time and patience you need the usual animation principles, ie. knowing how things move and how to make it look good.

The amount of work and ingenuity that went in that movie was nuts. And you couldn't cheat with computers like they do nowadays.
It's sadly a VERY underappreciated form of animation. That goes for puppets and dolls too.
puppets are live action, thats a whole other crazy thing thats probably just lots of takes.
No, because it's claymation?
There's actually a Japanese tradition of stop-motion puppetry with Kihachiro Kawamoto's movies: youtube.com
No, but craymation would.
Pretty cool, thanks for sharing
This is not the KyoAni thread.
well that is nightmarish and awesome
if claymation gets to count,
this gets to count.
That's not animation.
Yes and yes.
I want to like this but I just can't into non-Japanese asian fantasy.
Wait until you see his Sleeping Beauty "adaptation" with puppet sex : youtube.com
Really fascinating article on him for those not familiar:

claymation/stop motion(puppetry) is the most soulful and difficult animation to produce when its done with passion and a budget no matter what you end up with an artistic masterpiece
other than domo-kun what have the nips made
also Wallace and Gromit is greatest animation ever made
Well that made me feel sorry for the mushroom.
oh wait derp old godzilla is mostly stop motion
is this made in the same spirit as team america world police?
I thought that was a dude in a suit.
>is this made in the same spirit as team america world police?
I miss Ray Harryhausen.
Claymation is creepy, and I never liked it. That papercraft animation is even worse.
I would watch it but the reason claymation is so rare is because it is a VERY expensive, time-consuming process much like how stop-motion animation is.
I feel like using Wallace and Gromit as an example in contrast to anything else is just unfair. W&G was the absolute mastery of the craft, you make everything else look bad by comparison.
Team America was made with marionettes
Depended on the shot, sometimes it was a puppet. In full body shots it was a suit.
THE LAND IS CLAD IN THE DEEPEST BLUE
S3 fucking when
>claymation/stop motion(puppetry) is the most soulful and difficult animation to produce when its done with passion and a budget no matter what you end up with an artistic masterpiece
This. Putting aside the subculture that grew around it, part of the reason The Nightmare Before Christmas is so beloved is because of how beautiful the animation is in an artstlye that's so twisted.

That movie looks amazing. Every scene oozes with detail and obviously has a ton of effort put into it.
The fact that it's 24 frames of animation per second, and because it's stop-motion they can't animate in 2s like traditional animation, shows how much work has to be put in. It's also why the movie has a 100% consistent framerate in the animation, it's never jumpy.
Yes I'd watch it... if it was still a thing. CGI has almost completely wiped out stop motion and claymotion.
Fun fact, back in the 2000s during the rise of anime, cartoon network thought it'd be a good idea to dub one of these shows and change the plot to make it American.

It was a complete disaster
I'd say it's fairing better than 2D animation outside Japan.
Is there ever going to be a Junkhead sequel? Really liked it.
Outside of the name Wulin Warriors I can't remember it. The name rings a bell.
It's why it took Disney years to agree to making it, that kind of effort is insanely expensive.
Didn't help that it only did "ok" at the box office and wouldn't have really been profitable without its massive merchandise sales.
Wensleydale?
>Marcille being a picky eater by not eatijg any of the mushroom
Fucking elves
The visuals are taken mainly from the German Expressionism period of horror films where buildings are distorted and all the scenery is warped and twisted. It's a style that more or less died with the rise of Third Reich since it was seen as a degenerate form of art and thus most surviving aspects of the style are from German filmmakers who fled to Britain and the US like Carl Laemmle. Burton was fascinated with the artstyle which is why he tried to revive it in so many of his films.
It count as animation, if it's made by Japan then it is anime, if I remember correctly Sayona Zetsubou Sensei had a section with it, can't remember other examples.
Thunderbolt Fantasy is simple so awesome that it counts as anime, totally different.
Yes it is retard.
