Nowadays, bullying hasn't been a problem since the 90s. Any millennial who says they were "bullied" in school just didn't speak up about it. The modern school system bends over backwards to discipline bullies and all these millennials had to do was report them.

Clione no Akari, I'm not going to say is a good anime because it really lack A LOT of stuff, but is the most realistic portrayal I have seen about bullying in anime. Koe no Katachi is also a good portrayal of how it really works.

Bullying is different for many cases, it's impossible to define a standard type of bullying because the reason for the bullying is different depending of the case. Im my class there was a boy who got bullied for years because one day he said to his black friend "happy nigga's day" and gave a "black diamond" chocolate bar to him, his friend found it funny, but the day after that people started to throw things at him and his friend until the day someone started to beat him. On the other side there was also a boy who was just weird and a popular guy started to make fun of him just to look cool, he never tried to hurt anyone, he was just weird, and that was enough to get bullied for years, and i also remember someone who was inconvenient and acted like an autistic mongoloid who out from nowhere started report people for bullying just because people were mean to him in one sentence, i even heard that one time he did it without having nothing against one guy, after a time he stopped but because of his actions + his autistic behavior he god bullied for the rest of school days and even got beaten and for some weird reason he didn't reported that like he did.

I think it has more to do with being perceived as a target. If they bully you for picking your nose then they would probably have also bullied you for whatever else.

I got bullied by people who were semi friends sticking up for me.
How does this make any sense you ask?
Well, every time i'd face ANY adversity, even if it literally didn't bother me at all, these fuckers would come up and be all like "leave him alone" "it's okay" "we got your back" "you want me to do something about it for you" etc, etc.
It really got annoying because it was like they were perpetrating me being helpless.

It was similar for me. Used to be bullied in middle school tjen became a bully in high school. Although in my case I was always aware that I became a bully because I was afraid of getting bullied myself.
