Sagisu has attained elder god tier. The way he mixes orchestral and rock in the OST is absolutely fantastic. 3.33's OST was unbelievably good, and the whole climax of 2.22 is also amazing thanks to the music.
Rebuild Shinji has far more agency, culminating in 3.33. He is no longer a passive figure enduring circumstances thrust upon him. Unfortunately, he keeps making the wrong choices.

Yes, it is. It's not your story, you get 0 input. Anno owes you nothing. If you don't like his story, then it just isn't for you. You can think it's good or think it's bad, no one is going to be able to change your mind and you're not going to convince anyone either. But if it wasn't a satisfying experience for you you, well... Maybe you should watch something that actually maps to your interests and personal taste instead.
