They animated unadapted chapters, mainly the ones with the new transfer student and the prevert-not-pervert teacher, and they adapted the ending. That's why it was only 6 episodes.

disagreed. Gintama can be very funny, but can also be not. Just shows that you haven't watched enough gintama. Anyways, Most comedy anime aren't watchable just by comedic moments alone, but most are just a lot of buildup to a really funny joke eventually, with some kinda shitty jokes in between The reason I can watch comedy anime is if the characters and their dynamics with one another are likeable, and that's why I kept watching gintama even though some moments are unfunny. It's because there's a dozen of great and funny characters that I'm excited to see on screen. Same for saiki, which is also one of the greatest comedy anime of all time.
and also danshi kokosei no nichijou, and a hidden gem of last summer, Joshi kousei no mudazuki.
