The show would have been so much better if it was about him. I don’t know why the mangaka thought Yuu was a more interesting protagonist than the self hating vampire forced to live and fight alongside his abusers. Yuu is such a shitty charmless lead. Mika should run away with Shinoa so they can be charismatic together.

The other characters are fine, it's really only Yuu dragging things down. I dropped the manga because Yuu being a fucking retard at every turn despite clearly knowing better got tiring. He's like the autistic younger brother that the other siblings are forced to babysit on outings. But the author could definitely get away with doing what the Akame Ga Kill author did and do a prequel from Mikas perspective.

Yuu only has utility insofar that he makes Mika happy. I’m just kind of shocked is all, I can’t remember the last time I saw something where the quality of one character contrasted against the QUALITY of the show around them so badly. I was upset enough I tried looking for fix-it fanfic but no one writes anything but Mika/Yuu slash, I don’t know why I expected anything else.

Not saying MikaYuu is bad but that just in terms of which characters are the most interesting/entertaining on their own I’d list Mika and Shinoa above Yuu. They are both more charming and would probably have good (platonic) chemistry together.
