Pre-2000s anime

The last thread was pretty decent so I think it's time for a new one. What are you watching now? Anything you're interested in?

Probably shouldn't have started it at a weird hour, but I'll keep it active for as long as I can.

cough

Good luck trying to actually discuss anything today.

Would it be difficult? I mean it's a large range of shit so there's not some sort of shortage of things to discuss.

>24 hours later
Still watching Lain, bro.

It's more that there is a joke event on.

Check your calendar, user.

Pre-2000s threads aren't supposed to be daily generals. We've been over this months ago. We've been over this years ago.
By making them so frequently, you'd ironically ruining the quality of these threads. And these threads start getting deleted by mods if you make this them frequently.

If there's one less waifushit and seasonalshit thread, then it's all worth it.

Nobody cares about your vendetta against modern anime, dude, but that doesn't mean you can drag pre-2000s into it with you.

This.

It's not a reason, it's just a bright side.

lupin
is a nice man

What is this gatekeeping faggotry you retards keep trying to pull?
>You can only have a certain amount of these threads during a specific period of time
>Stop not liking things while also talking about things you do like or else you're going to taint the devalue the things I like
If you did less whining and focused on the topic, we wouldn't be in a situation like this.

he smiles.

No one cares about your vendetta against retro anime either.

They have an autistic contempt for old anime and hate the very idea of people talking about them on Yas Forums. You see this all over the board. Mention an older series and immediately some insecure faggot calls you pretentious or edgy.

A few times every year different newfags show up and constantly create pre-2000s over and over again, back to back, effectively turning it into a general which whittles away actual discussion. Pre-2000s threads work better as once or twice a week things because that gives people time to watch something else and discuss something else; whereas daily pre-2000s threads usually get dominated by the same anime, like Lupin for the last 3 days.

Also mods start deleting these threads when they're made repeatedly.

That's a wonderful observation but it's not relevant as of now. If it becomes a problem, you'll know but for now it's not an issue.

Is there any kind of watch guide to Lupin outlining which of the annual specials are garbage vs which are a decent watch?

I watched Lupin III The Castle of Cagliostro first then started the first series. I'm on ep 20 of Lupin III Part 2

Attached: 7oAL5kW.png (640x480, 280.69K)

you honestly won't know what's good and what's garbage until you watch it. very divisive series with varying opinions on what makes something a good lupin and what does not.

I've seen every single movie at least 3 times at this point so I think I have a good understanding which ones are enjoyable and which aren't. The "bad" Lupin movies are usually the ones that came out during the mid-late 2000's. Luckily this is not the thread for those movies so it will be easy to name off the ones I found to be enjoy and consider worth watching

Mystery of Mamo
Castle of Cagliostro
Legend of the Gold of Babylon
Fuma Conspiracy
Bye Bye Lady Liberty
Hemingway Papers
Voyage to Danger
Dead or Alive
In Memory of Walther P38
Tokyo Crisis
$1 Money Wars (2000)

Even though these are my preferred picks, there some that other people including yourself may like such as the other Dezaki movies like Napoleon's Dictionary and From Russia with Love.Other people may enjoy Farewell to Nostradamus and Twilight Gemini even though I personally find them sorta mediocre. None are really bad by any means but it's just a matter of what you like. You may not like some of my picks while enjoying the ones I say are not very good. Some people surprisingly enough do not like Gold Babylon while I consider it to be ESSENTIAL Lupin. I believe I have good taste in Lupin so at least take my word for the time being. Also watch the pilot film from 1969. It's only 10 minutes long and is a nice introduction to the franchise.

Thank you user!

Sell me on Shadow Skill, I've seen you post it a few times

Did we ever reach a consensus last thread whether Rose of Versailles is the best anime of all time, or if instead it's the greatest anime of all time?

Also, if they're already speaking French, then is this, like, Double French?

>Did we ever reach a consensus last thread whether Rose of Versailles is the best anime of all time
It's not even the best anime of that decade let alone the best anime of all time.

Attached: Ashita no Joe.jpg (301x417, 79.11K)

Currently watching Utena, really enjoyed it. Finally got around to watching Rose of Versailles last summer as well, which was really enjoyable too.

This was cute. Hoping to find some more pre-2000s kids anime.

whats the best order to watch them?

So basically anything by Nippon.
chronological always.

It's awesome

What separates this from all the other generic mecha anime of that era?

I'll cheat for this one since I'm kind of out of proper pre 00's stuff to watch
Nothing, it was just a pretty high budget Brave show and the first (and only) one for most people out of Japan.

bump

Is Ashita no Joe enjoyable only if you are a man?

201010957
Of course, women will never understand Joe

Yet ROV is enjoyable for everyone

201011428
I didn't enjoy it because it spent too much time on how petty and shitty the nobility was. The second half was cool.

Watch it for Elle, arguably the greatest female battle shonen protagonist ever.
Start with the 1998 TV series. It's the beginning of the story and covers the most. Best character designs, good art, but has extremely pisspoor animation and a lot of QUALITY because they saved the budget for the final battle.
Then you can watch the 1995 movie, it's a side story that can fit in between episode 6ish to episode 15ish of the TV anime. Best animation and artwork in the series and doesn't conflict with anything in the TV anime, but the character designs are very different from the TV series. Provides some cool lore and some character development that wasn't in the TV series too.

You can avoid the 1996 movie. It's basically a different telling of the first few episodes of the TV series, the overall story is the same but a lot of the details are very different and I personally find them worse. The character art is really bad, you know how some people complain about how ugly, angular, pointy, and overblown anime character proportions can be in the 1990s? The artstyle is basically that. Animation is fine though.

If I recall correctly, GaoGaiGar was intentionally written to be the polar opposite of a lot of the darker mecha anime that was getting very popular in the 90s, the staff wanted to try and prove that traditional super robots could still sell to children. It backfired though because children didn't watch GaoGaiGar and it was more popular with adults, so the spinoff and the sequel OVA took a darker tone.

Attached: 302.jpg (720x540, 194.77K)

It's only enjoyable if you have good taste. I can't think of a better character piece in all of anime.

Attached: Joe Yabuki.jpg (1023x768, 311.14K)

The personal stories of the cunt nobles were interesting and gave you an idea of how fucked up their world was. Also they were useful to define Oscar's mindset and ideals in the second half and and the end of the series.

checked. fun coincidence, I am watching lupin part iii, and it's as good as I remembered it. idk why fans don't like it

you sound like a shonenfag

He starts as a boy and slowly becomes a man who's done and seen it all. You spend your life trying to find your purpose. You find your purpose but it also becomes your downfall. At the end of the day, you're nothing more than pure white ash.

Attached: Joe.jpg (528x697, 162.95K)

>idk why fans don't like it
It's not that fans don't like it. Casuals don't like it. Anyone who's invested in Lupin knows pink jacket is one of the best series.

Attached: magic.gif (250x186, 1.68M)

little too looney tunes for me but nothing really terrible with that

What if I really hate boxing? It's a big turnoff for me

>babby's first dezaki
it's fine

You do know shonen is target audience and not just punchy punchy shit right? It's more than just Naruto and One Piece.

you say that like earlier lupin series weren't goofy or cartoony. I guess green jacket had a bunch of early "seinen" episodes, but red jacket was balls to the wall insane

@201012034
I know that, but you too know exactly what I am talking about when I talk about shonenfags
@201012024
You'll be fine. the drama and the memorable and resonating moments come from outside the ring just as much as they do during matches. it's not hajime no ippo

>What if I really hate boxing? It's a big turnoff for me
It's not really even about the boxing. If you don't like boxing, I would say don't watch Hajime no Ippo since the whole focus is boxing. Joe is a character study about the struggle of a thug orphaned boy who wanders from place to place until he meets people that give his life meaning. He grows a love for boxing but every episode is not just him training for a fight. There's a lot of other factors that play out. For example, he spends an entire arc in jail where he just fucks with the other inmates. Plus the boxing aspects is actually pretty cool even if it's not something that interest you pesronally. The fights are fun and they all serve some purpose. I don't like racing but I can still enjoy initial D. I don't like Tennis but I can still enjoy Aim for the Ace. Just be invested in the characters and everything else comes natural to you.

201012255
It is about the boxing, but it's also a story about the human outside of the ring

The goofiness isn't a problem, I'm not sure why I hate it. It's not cartoony for the sake of being funny just for its own sake. The show making ridiculous excuses for Lupin & really Goemon's shit is completely different from playing 70 year old gags verbatim, lots of shitty dynamite and gun gags.

Boxing is great and fuck you.

>but red jacket was balls to the wall insane
red jacket was more insane than most of the pink jacket episodes at time. pink jacket is literally just red jacket but with better animation and a little more exaggerated when it comes to movement.

What the fuck are you doing, retard? Tag people properly, newfaggot

He doesn't want to get the corona, but he can still be infected when people reply to him lol.

@201012367
I'm practicing social distancing faggot. you should have done the same

>Boxing is great and fuck you
The other anons gave me better arguments as for why I should read/watch it, so fuck you too man.

You should man up and watch professional boxing, too.

pro boxing is fucking gay. Imagine fighting another man while wearing mittens. Real men bare knuckle brawl

professional boxing is very lame. they spend half the match hugging like a bunch of homos.

Maybe I have XX chromosomes, genius?

@201012549
>bare knuckle brawl
>nobody gets hurt because you don't want to break your hands
your knuckles will be dust before you can give anyone a concussion

you will never pass

that is true, illegal but true. at least it's not MMA.

Only weak ass people break their hands. Any sport where Floyd Mayweather can be the best is obviously fundamentally flawed. He would lose more than half of the fights he's been in if he was in an actual fight with his opponents.

No sport is a fight. Its a game of stamina and technique where you inevitably get brain damaged

But do they say no homo?

Did I miss the Lupin talk? I just found this and thought it was pretty cool.
