A bit subverted. Asta really doesn't have magic. The anti-magic is not his which makes me think the story will end with him losing it.

Or they could say that the anti-magic was just blocking his real magic all along but that would be a cheap cop-out.

not him but he gets born with 0 magic in a world where everyone is a wizard, there's people with low magic but he's the only one with no magic at all, so he works out to compensate, when everyone goes to get their grimoires he gets a cursed one that has a sword coated in antimagic.
He still gets rekt by powerful wizards but antimagic can counter a lot of bullshit that should be crazy strong

I remember thinking that it was the most ludicrously generic thing I'd ever seen apart from the art style.

it actually is a pretty dogshit class.
later on in the LNs he learns intermediate magic and golem magic but because he's not a mage class it can't actually damage anything.
He also gets fucked over with equipment because all the good stuff is class locked and no one makes adventurer specific equipment.

the anti-magic comes from the grimoire and his swords, and the swords do drain the mana of whoever touches them, that's why most wizards become useless when they get stabbed Vetto being the exception because he's strong even without his magic enhancements

HxH's power system contradicted itself within like 40 chapters

MHA is horrible for that in general. There are at least 3 villains with one touch = instant kill powers so any fight involving them is either an utter borefest or them curb stomping a bunch of mooks

After watching FMA, Overhaul seemed even more powerful than I initially thought. Dude pretty much had Alchemy, but didn't have to adhere to any of the basic rules.

Overhaul is my least favorite villain in any manga, because he could have done ANYTHING else to achieve his goals. Overhaul could have become the greatest hero in the country and then changed things from the inside out. He could have become a travelling doctor who cures cancer and every other disease, becomes a messiah figure, and then convinces people quirks are bad etc.

Make everyone else just as strong as them, but then give them a power that lets them win via creativity instead of brute force. Powers like "I get really strong when I'm angery grrrr" lead to fights always ending the same way, they just overpower their opponent.

the latest chapter of CSM was probably the coolest way I've ever seen of establishing that a character is too powerful to fight. The Darkness Devil shows up and everyone's arms just fall off spontaneously because he's that strong
