I'm literally seething that Dark Matter only got 4 episodes while accelerator and railgun still continue. The latter two are both unnecessary since Misaka and Accelerator are both quite prevalent in the series anyway, especially Accelerator since he's the goddamn duetragonist. Yet they get spinoffs. Railgun I can at least understand but what purpose shotted Accelerator serve? Kakine got shafted more than any level 5 and we finally got to see him in his own story, but it only gets 4 chapters. His backstory is barely addressed and it leaves more questions than before.

WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS?

I'm hoping that the DM manga has set a trend of Raildex producing more one volume manga on different characters.

Maybe next time we'll get one on Gunha or maybe someone from the magic side.

I can see it being Gunha next, probably Mugino right after to cap off the Level 5s before moving to other characters.

Forget sob story, Mugino has nothing AT ALL hinted at. She has what, a single line in WW3 where she says offhand "how did this happen"? There's absolutely zero basis to build a story.

Be mad, or be angry. Kakine's spinoff was conclusive , and I am fully confident that we'll get answers in the main story. Make no mistake, its no mere coincidence that Kamachi chose NOW of all times to develop a sidestory for Kakine. It effectively characterized him, which makes bringing him into the main plot that much more likely. I reckon that they'll expand more upon his past when he begins to play a prominent role in GT, which is most likely very soon.
Although, a continuation of Dark Matter would be nice. Kakine still has content that could be marketed for a 30 chapter manga at the very least.

Junko had nothing hinted at beyond her status as a follower of Misaki, yet she got a spinoff and backstory anyways.
Anyone can get a backstory, whether that backstory is interesting or matters is where the real meat of the discussion would be.

It's not much more effort than index this time around, just better pacing and directing

JC has really fallen far if this is all a good director can manage without other shows that season
