Every single thread on Yas Forums nowadays seems to only about seasonalshit, waifushit, and the most generic shit that's constantly talked about in every circle. Can we have ONE thread dedicated to the good ol' retro shit. Anything pre-1995. Something you're watching now or something you've seen recently. Let's just get cozy and discuss some memories.

There have been 4 pre-2000 threads in the past 3 days, OP.

its clever bait to start threads, the pre-1995 is a good touch though cause a lot of the "classics" that Yas Forums has heard of are post-95 and onward. I can post here now though.

>its clever bait to start threads
The thread's going to be derailed into autistic arguing about cel versus digital for 500 posts because of the bait OP, and any discussion you want to have is going to be completely ignored.

well OPs will be faggots

I don't go on Yas Forums everyday. I haven't even been on in at least a week and when I was here, I used catalog and seen no threads of the sort.

>The thread's going to be derailed into autistic arguing about cel versus digital
There's nothing to argue about since cel is obviously better. It adds texture to your show which is something you cannot recreate in digital unless you're using some sort of half-ass filter that sucks the soul out of the image. Digital makes things easier and is far more convenient but that just leads to animators being cheap and cutting corners. The less you have to do, the lazier they get. Things like adding color and shadowing aren't quite as precise detailed when you can just use some fill tool. There's no real right or wrong answer and at the end of the day it's a matter of preference but I feel the best work was done using cels as opposed to everything being done on a computer. Some great stuff uses a mixture of both but that will probably never happen again.

you can literally add physical cels digitally, nobody does though cause slave animation doesn't pay. On the other hand rotoscoping is as characterful as it gets and it tends to look like shit and ruin all the rest of the scene.

It's hardly "derailed" when that's exactly the course OP sent the thread in.
For some reason nostalgiafags can't just like old things, they have to bitch and moan about new things instead.

OP here. I didn't even say anything other than I would like to have a thread about this. I did no bitching or moaning. Just made a basic observation which is something you're choosing to obsess over

> when that's exactly the course OP sent the thread in.
>For some reason nostalgiafags can't just like old things
OP's just baiting, his posts read like satire.

> they have to bitch and moan about new things instead.
Actually, it's usually the people who only recently got into old things that can't stop crying about new things.

shut the fuck up

OP here. why does everything have to be some sort of conspiracy. Just wanna talk to my fellow degenerates about the shit I like.

Attached: kiss.gif (434x250, 332.16K)

Then start a thread by talking about things you like instead of things you hate.

Old anime is trash. Movies/ovas can be pretty, but plots either pants on a head retarded, completely pointless or boring.

>Then start a thread by talking about things you like instead of things you hate.
That's part of being human. Every person discusses what they like and dislike. You cannot avoid one while talking about the other. That how conversing works. I did the right thing because at least i got it out of the way from the start.

OP here, literally can't stop sucking cocks

Well the 50s-70s stuff has its own kind of charm, very much entirely for children but like... irresponsible parenting level. 80s stuff is usually fine.

real OP here.
>Well the 50s-70s stuff has its own kind of charm, very much entirely for children but like... irresponsible parenting level. 80s stuff is usually fine
70's has quite a bit of mature anime. Some of the shit like Ashita no Joe and Roser of Versailles are far more mature and complex than many of the best shows that came out decades later. Yes it was also filled with a lot of generic villain of the week kids shit but every decade has that.

MY QUARENTINE MOTHERFUCKING MAN, LONG LIVE GOLDEN THIEVES

Pink jackets sucks shit.

Attached: 1512513140842.jpg (720x600, 42.76K)

Pink jacket is a literal normie filter that keeps away anyone who doesn't like anything cartoony.. There was never anything wrong with the series but since it looked different so it triggered retards. The wackiness of that series was influenced by the original manga which is still great to this day. Monkey Punch was heavily influenced by MAD magazine so whenever you see insane over the top facial expressions, exaggerated proportions, or anything that made no logical sense, it's just them taking influence from the source material. It has the best animation of any of the other shows but people always bitch about how it looks instead of just appreciating it for what it is. In terms of storytelling, it's no worse than the red jacket episodes and it still has killer music. At this point, if someone says they don't like it, I just assume they have no idea what they're talking about and that they're most likely 14 or something. People who are genuinely into the art of animation prefer pink jacket over the other series because of how well animated it is. Lot's of fluid animation with smears and all the tricks in the book. I personally prefer the green jacket series over them all but pink might be a close second.

Attached: Pink Jacket scene.gif (400x298, 2.07M)

Everyone knows green jacket is best but thats really the cherry pickingest choice.

thread dead as fuck

>The less you have to do, the lazier they get
I can tell the majority of old anime you've seen has been movies and OVAs, otherwise you wouldn't post such nonsense. Watch more TV shows and you'll experience a whole new world of corner cutting.

>I can tell the majority of old anime you've seen has been movies and OVAs
No. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of that. I'd rather get invested into a 13-26 episode show than sit through an hour or an hour and a half of something.
>Watch more TV shows and you'll experience a whole new world of corner cutting.
Almost every show cuts corners but I don't think it was as noticeable back when they didn't have the amount of shortcuts we do now due to the advancement of technology. Plus the anime industry during the 80's was huge. Budgets were as high as they ever been which led to consistency in animation. No it does not apply to every show since you obviously still had cheaper low budget shows being made but I don't think it was as prevalent back then as it is now. This is also only based off of the things that I've watched which is quite a lot. Obviously there are shows no one has ever heard of and has never been translated so those really crappy shows that were made with no money and cut all the corners were never available to us. We only ever got the good shit. Nowadays everything is available so it's easier to view the bullshit coming out now than it would have been back in the day. If I watch something like Space Adventure Cobra for example, it was an alright show but it was never some big blockbuster shounen like a Fist of the North Star or any of the shows that actually had a budget and made money. It took the budget it had and put out high quality fluid animation on a consistent basis. Even during the moments where the characters are just standing and talking, you aren't just seeing mouths moving and eyes blinking. Every character had life and constantly had rapid changes in facial expressions which is something you never get anymore unless it's some over-the-top comedy and even then they reuse the same facial expressions all the time. My point is every decade is guilty of being cheap but it wasn't AS bad as it is now. The industry is in a bad way.

>I've only seen the castle of cagliostro moive. any tips where i should go from here?
For one, Lupin is not Lupin in Cagliostro. That movie suffers from Miyazaki bullshit where he turned Lupin into Robin Hood so anything that's not Cagliostro may seem different to you at first. It's not a bad movie or anything but it's not a good portrayal of any of the characters. He's typically a hardboiled criminal who steals shit and is also wacky and perverted. Just start with the first series. It's episodic and adapts some stories from the manga. It starts off with a darker tone and as the series progresses it gets more wild and silly which would be the norm later on. After you're done that, watch the second series which is the most famous one that everyone loves. If you want a good understanding what Lupin is most of the time, that's the one to know. after a couple dozen episodes, just start watching the movies in however order you want. I would go chronologically but it doesn't really matter. As for the shows just watch those chronologically

Touch is definitely my pre-1995 favourite. Has anyone here watched Maison Ikkoku, that seems like an anime I would absolutely love, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Attached: touch2.jpg (360x360, 22.65K)

No don't just skip episodes. if you're gonna watch the show just watch all of it. If you like it enough after you start, you'll just finish it. Green Jacket is shorter and better than both series 4 & 5 but telling him to watch all of them while selecting some of green jacket is kind of dumb. Part 2 and 3 have a ton of more quality episodes so just naming 10 or so is ridiculous. Episodes 45 and 50 of Pink Jacket are some of the best in the series and you don't even have them listed. I think he'll be better off watching the shit and forming his own opinion to be honest.

A lot of people like to pretend that Miyazaki wasn't one of the co-directors of the original Lupin show and his vision for Lupin is just as valid as anyone else's. It may not be YOUR Lupin but that's like saying Adam West's Batman isn't Batman. It absolutely is.

Attached: 76e515f9707ebb7ead5c027e2b098444.jpg (700x800, 349.65K)

Goemon is wasted as fuck but Cagliastro Lupin gets the best fucking gadget hijinks & Fujiko is great. Also Jigen with an anti tank gun is pretty swell.

im more of a moive guy, is it necessary to watch the serires befor the moives?

No. You can just jump into it. The characters are iconic and memorable enough for you to pick things up just from the movies.

You say you're the biggest Lupin fan yet you think Cagliostro Lupin "isn't Lupin"? It's the most influential iteration of the character throughout the franchise next to Red Jacket and the original manga.

>nowadays
Lurk more and try to be less of a whiny faggot, faggot.

Chaotic Good Lupin> the rest

>A lot of people like to pretend that Miyazaki wasn't one of the co-directors of the original Lupin show
Yeah we know. It's also the common opinion that the quality of the show after Miyazaki and Takahata took over dropped. The earlier episodes are still preferred to this day. They are typically rated higher and even guys like Shinichiro Watanabe consider the non-Miyazaki episodes a huge influence. It was just a better show before they came around. It didn't become bad but it wasn't as good.
>It may not be YOUR Lupin but that's like saying Adam West's Batman isn't Batman. It absolutely is.
Why are you so defensive. I'm talking about how Lupin is portrayed in the Cagliostro movie. He's obviously not Lupin at all. He doesn't steal nor is he trying to commit any crimes which is the reasoning for his whole existence. That's what he loves. Instead he spends the whole movie playing a superhero trying to save some girl from some evil man keeping her in the castle (which in itself is a overly played out tale). It just isn't his character. This is why I don't mind Miyazaki working on the show as much because he had to work under the formula that had already been established in the earlier episodes of the show so by the time he got to do his own movie, he didn't have those restrictions. That led to him changing around the characters' personalities and watering them down to Ghibli level characters which is dumb. Like I said before, the movie isn't bad by any means but it's not an accurate portrayal of those characters. Even Monkey Punch the creator has said it wasn't his Lupin at all and wasn't until decades later where he accepted it as it's own thing and learned to like it for what it was.

Attached: 10.png (210x240, 65.37K)

Fuck off, twitterfag

>doesn't really commit crimes
He always commits crimes but like lets fujiko get away with the haul or it turns out to be a fake or something every goddamn time.

I started to quote this post to break down how stupid it was but would have ended up doing the whole thing.

Let me help you out.
>I have argument.
Now stop being a retard and being butthurt over logical opinions. If me saying this triggers you enough to give an actual argument that i will undoubtedly deconstruct, just know by doing so you're letting me win since you were just about to give up anyway. Either way, stop acting like a child because I don't like your precious Cagliostro Lupin. it's not even an uncommon opinion to begin with.

Some people try to argue that Lupin in Cagliostro is older so that automatically makes him so mature that he doesn't do much thieving anymore but that's too much of a drastic change in character considering he would have only been in his 30's at the very most during the events of Cagliostro.

ight well if there's no more Lupin talk, imma head out. It's been fun being right as usual. Enjoy the thread. Will pop on later if it doesn't die.

>Tsukasa Hojo women designs
Stop, I can only get so hard

If you like Lupin the 3rd, I recommend City Hunter. It's one of the best shows to come out of the 80's. Even the spin-off is pretty good. I hope the recent movie was successful enough to warrant a new TV series but knowing Sunrise, they'll probably put all their money into more Gundam trash. At least they have that new Akira anime under their belt. Still kind of funny how City Hunter which is a Sunrise anime takes heavily from Lupin while Akira which was done by TMS is now being done by Sunrise. To make it weirder, the City Hunter spin-off "Angel Heart" was done by TMS. Makes ya think.

>REEEEEEE STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE
OP

studios riffing off other studios is great, especially when Sunrise steps out of gundam trash.

>Babylon
>Hemingway Papers
Based retard

>Part 2 - 38
Are you retarded? This is one of the worst episodes.
And what is it with so many people dicksucking episode 46?

Are people still doing this Babylon is bad meme? We get it, it makes no sense. It's still a fun and artistic piece of cinema directed by the king of no sense himself, Seijun Suzuki. Why do people hate fun so much. It's still far more enjoyable than 99% of the generic 2000's TV specials where everything looked the same and just felt like extended red jacket episodes but worse.

Attached: Babylon kiss.gif (400x215, 767.74K)

It's not about realism of the story, it's about how even looking at the scenes individually there isn't almost anything the movie can offer (with a few exceptions like the train scene). The animation is horrendous, and there's pants-on-head retarded shit like the motorcycle chase at the beginning which just drags on and on and on.
You should stop sucking its dick because it was directed by Suzuki. At least he gave us one good Lupin-related thing (namely, Part III's episode 13).
>It's still far more enjoyable than 99% of the generic 2000's TV specials where everything looked the same and just felt like extended red jacket episodes but worse
Just because something took risks doesn't mean it's authomatically better than something that's playing it safe. I'd take a 3/5 that doesn't take a risk over a 1.5/5 that takes risks. Of course, a 5/5 that takes risks is the best, but we can't have that always, can we?

This just sounds more like a matter of preference more than anything. You don't like it and you have nitpicks. Understandable, have a day.
