Ooooh dont stop
Just started Fist of the North Star
After that its Gundam ZZ
>After that its Gundam ZZ
Go into ZZ with an open mind. Just embrace some of the silliness and goofiness at the start and just know that Tomino doesn't always like to be super serious.
who's your retro babe?
My wife Mink
your wife has a cute tushy
I was going to make a thread about Ruin Explorers, but I guess I'll just post here.
I have watched the anime, and finished reading the manga a few hours ago. It was a very comfy watch, too bad it's so short.
I can't believe the OVAs improved the source material so much.
What is the greatest pre-2000s opening, and why is it this?

Is this technically isekai?
>1990s gamer girls get teleported to the 2990s to fight a space war because of their superior gamer reflexes
Hekiru Shiinamind
Just rewatching Votoms
Wish there were more modern mecha gamrs which would make it possible to recreate a Red Shoulder Scopedog.
Let's say, Anthy.
literally this

Azumi is pretty good.
fuck, now i wanna watch this show!
that show is psycho.
can someone finish ripping esper mami?
What's wrong with 10bit?
Beat me to it. I love Oscar-sama
it only works on my computer and i dont want to watch anime on my computer
You mean to tell me you're not watching old anime in VHS and LD format on your CRT tv? Absolutely disgusting.
no that's just time travel
He makes lesser gorgs cower in fear!
I have watched every single anime made in 1991, ask me anything (well, not yet I still have like 8 or so left but)
good God man
how long did this take you?
Rewatching Dirty Pair now that the BD is out, Darkstalkers and random episodes of Cowboy Bebop. Also Galient (didn't like the first episode that much), Bastard! (first episodes were kinda weak, but the fight against Gara was pretty good), Turn A Gundam, Gasaraki, Daimos and Iczer-1.
what was the worst most painful thing to watch from 91
Almost done with gunbuster, and a few days ago I watched perfect blue.
Kei or Yuri?
Kei.
2 years. Could have finished earlier, but I got lazy for a couple of months. TV anime are the hardest to get through, but during the summer where I had a lot of free time on my hands, I was able to clear 2-3 OVA/movies per day. In total, I would have watched 160 anime, and I had to drop 22 anime because I simply couldn't find them anywhere. I was actually surprised I didn't have to drop more of them, but a surprising number of these obscure OVA, that don't even appear on Nyaa, I would find on nicovideo, or VK or on Billibilli, and in one case, on archive.org. In fact, during the 2 years I did this, some kind soul even managed to upload a number of anime I couldn't find before. Like Dororonpa!
What was your favorite?
R-ruggarell, is that you?
include 2000-2003 it still counts
best year is 2001 dont @ mw
No it doesn't. I like the early 2000s but the year 2000 conveniently marked the overall switch to digital production rather than cel production, hence the cut-off.
2000-2003 is 90% digital.
maybe this isn't the thread for this but can you explain why you prefer cel production over digital? Hard mode: can't use the word 'soul'.
If your plan is to watch all the 90s anime you should give up now. More than 1500 anime released in 90s.
The old cel aesthetic was starting to disappear by then though. Still, you're right that the "feel" of a lot of those shows is a continuation of the late 90's.
I imagine he was born in 91 so that's why he wanted to watch everything from that year
Not that user but it feels more weighted if thats appropriate. Things move with weight: Hair falls and moves with wind and drops when it isn't propped up, mechanics feel heavy and the detail of their inner workings is immense. Also i dislike the colorization of modern anime somewhat, not saying it isn't there but theres next to no shading anywhere.
That's fair. I actually have no preference for old or new anime as far as style goes. I think they both have their own merits and are equally enjoyable. I'm mostly trying to unroot why some folks around here simply refuse to like newer stuff. The only think i can think is that the nostalgia of seeing things that remind them of their youths triggers a positive feel good response in their brain and make them weigh it more favorably. Thanks for the answer though.
Where the hell can I watch F1
Grain and 480p resolution = peak soul. Sorry, zoomer, but those are facts.
>Movie
Anpanman: Dokin-chan no Dokidoki Calendar
There is nothing inherently bad about this. But its literally a movie aimed at toddlers. Anpanman is one of the highest grossing media franchises out there and its not even unique, its basically a long clip show of the TV series aimed at very little kids.Watching it make you question the sanity of engaging in such an autistic challenge that you won't even give yourself the option to just drop stuff.
>OVA
Judging from the opinions and ratings of AniDB and MAL, the worst anime from 1991 are Dark Cat and Psychic Wars. Psychic Wars definitely objectively sucks, like what happened during production? Such bad animation...but I don't get the special hate of Dark Cat. It is not good, but compared to the amount of no subs obscure and cheap OVA I saw from this year, it really doesn't stand out as being really all that bad. Anyway, there is another one called Inferious Wakusei Senshi Gaiden Condition Green, that only JUST got recently subbed, and wow, that was hilariously bad, among the worst OVA of this year. It's one of those anime that get worse the more you think about it. The ending is so abysmal and so out there. It's like they realize "oh shit we need to finish this OVA but we forgot to deal with the whole runaway alien ship", so in 30 seconds, one of the characters, who we knew for a couple of episodes trying to detonate a bomb on the ship, suddenly makes this stupid face, and then he, along with the entire ship blows up, and that's it. That's how it ends.
>TV show
Jankenman was painful to watch. I wouldn't call it the worst one and its aimed for children, but the entire thing feels like a parody of a Japanese show aimed at children, a bad one. Jarinko Chie, at least, this 1991 series, was really really boring. Again, I wouldn't call it the worst one, but those children seiyuus were annoying. You could tell there was something off with the seiyuus, and turns out this was the only role they had
Yea i suppose so,but the thing is i know that many of these user here actually grew up with not only toonami back in the day its that we had american cartoons as well that we're cel animated and stuff and that looked alot better in my opinion than alot of modern stuff. The first season of spongebob, rocko's modern life, the first season of Fairly Odd parents, the weekenders that we're quite nicely animated. Also early Simpsons we're also a good example of nicely animated american cartoons. But thats not to say cel animation can't have some..snags
Ok i'll bite. Define 'soul' and why it's important in regards to the quality of an anime. It should be something quantitative that you can easily describe. If it isn't you're simply just using buzzwords to describe nostalgia.
Should I bother trying mellowlink if votoms bored me?
shit man don't fall into insanity
>folks
You don't belong here.
I just literally explained what soul means in regards to anime. The medium lost its soul when it abandoned those things.
>Imagine instantly knowing who a person is from a single word they say and or type
user you need a vacation or with the shit flying right now a nice staycation
Finished Zeta Gundam recently. I thought it was better than 0079, but I still wasn't a huge fan of it.
After watching user what can you say is your favorite mobile suit?
I liked the Zeta itself and Haman's was interesting looking. Was there are a reason the Hyaku Shiki was gold?
Not him but Turn X is probably my favourite. Something really aesthetic about the design. I also like the MSZ-006
Anti-Beam coating, I think they based that idea off the gold solar panels of the voyager craft and other space probes at the time
Only twitter/tumblr trannies use "folks" unironically and talk in such a pretentious and passive-aggressive tone. You're not fooling anyone here, hon.
user what i wanna know is why you had to bring that shit into this thread
This is really freaky. I was literally just randomly whistling the OP of this OVA and I haven't watched it in like ten years.
youtube.com
BANITY BANITY
It still hard to say, because I intentionally left the most famous and higher rated ones for last. Only Yesterday, Onisama e..., City Hunter 91, the Dragon Quest TV series, I still haven't watched them yet.
I will say, my favorite lesser known titles are Raijin-Oh, Kyukyoku Choujin R, NG Knight Ramune & 40 EX. Especially Kyukyoku Choujin R, that whole OVA gave a real nostalgic summer vibe of a 1991 rural Japan that I will never experience. If you love the sounds of that, and like Japanese trains...you should check that out.
Raijin-Oh was super fun. I would have loved this if it was ever translated and dubbed (and amazingly enough this does have a dub) and I watched it as a kid. NG Knight Ramune instantly made me want to check out its prequel TV series and the sequel OVA that comes after this. Milk is cute. CUTE
I also really liked Gundam Stardust Memory. To think, both Stardust Memory and F91 were my first introduction to the Gundam series, but Stardust Memory really makes me curious to try out the rest of the series.
Even I am not insane enough to willingly watch everything made in an entire decade.
> More than 1500 anime released in 90s.
And the majority of TV series are all 30~50 episodes.
