if you read the solution you are cheating

but everyone was following the guide

Well all I can say is don't expect it to get better
I mean literally over the course of the next 80 some episodes spanning multiple seasons it does not get better than the first couple episodes

People with beta knowledge were like people who buy up 1000 face mask during the corona virus. Basically they have access to resources (information) that could save lives but they keep it to themselves.

Jesus Christ, this is gonna be one of *those* threads isn't it?

>SAO is based on MMOs from the 90s where instances didn't really exist and respawn times for quests and resources were like hours long. So if someone bet you to the queue you could lose hours before you got the chance

>The common belief was that Beta Testers were using advanced knowledge to farm the best quests and grinding spots in order to lord over the rest of the peons (including things that were implied to not be in the guide because half the population thought the guide purposefully left out the really good shit on purpose even through Argo wasn't doing that)

>Kiabou (the guy who first starts REEEEEEEing about BEATAHS) Is a literal Commie, his whole philosophy is about redistribution of resources to the whole frontline. Of course he is gonna lose his shit at anyone who he feels has any "unfair" edge on anyone else

That's because you were 14 when you watched the first season

The other players were mad because they felt like Kirito had more experience and knowledge since he played the beta and they didn't. Basically they're just bitching about nothing, of course Kirito becoming some loner edgelord faggot was also cringe as fuck.

I don't like anything about Kirito's character though so I'm biased. Aincred was kino and I liked it more than Gun Gale. Alicization is pretty good though it's more gritty and dark compared to Gun Gale and Aincred.

it was just a case of noobs going "UNFAIR! UNFAIR! HOW DARE YOU BE BETTER THAN ME AT THE GAME!"

>Beater

To an extent, this really does happen in MMOs.
Most people just make friends with knowledgeable people, though.

>the point is that they are irrational and making stupid complaints
>hur dur I don't get it, this makes no sense

In this case it was a life and death situation. People were terrified about getting killed and the people who could really help and be guides werent sharing

>>SAO is based on MMOs from the 90s
no, if anything that would be .HACK

Even Runescape which came out in 01 had retarded shit like only 1 person can talk to an NPC at any given time. Waiting in an actual fucking line to talk to a damn banker or get a quest or turn in a quest could take hours.

...What are you trying to say here?
.//hack doesn't have a monopoly on inspiration you know.

SAO came out months before .hack in 2002 if you count the web novel.

Sounds like a term for someone who frequently beats their meat.

Nothing, just sound like you're trying to justify SAO's stupid plot holes wit akthually it's based from 90s MMOs, SAO released in 2012, they more than enough inspiration from modern MMOs, .hack released its anime in 2003 so they had no choice but to take inspiration from early 00s, 90s MMOs.

Oh, sorry, didn't know about that, yeah, in that case makes sense, disregard what I said above.

>you are suddenly stranded in a dangerous jungle with no clue how to surive or get home
>but wait there are people in the group have been to this jungle before and know where to find food, water, shelter, and hide from predators.
>instead of forming an organized community and help each other survive they sneak off by themselves knowing full well many will die without the information

Its not that unreasonable people would be upset

>e Kirito becoming some loner edgelord faggot was also cringe as fuck.

Which is why he spent the the next 2 floors screaming internally about how lame that was and "what the actual fuck was I thinking"

Read Progressive

>SAO released in 2012,

SAO was written in the early 2000s and took reference from early MMO like Everquest and Ultima Online which were punishing as hell. For some classes, dying was tantamount to perma-death because there was no way to retrieve your corpse with the gear you had. Melee characters like Rogues and Warriors were entirely incapable of 1v1ing NPC and if you had a party wipe at the bottom of a dungeon there was a real chance that you would be incapable of retrieving your gear. As someone who played on the most violent PvP server: Tallon Zek, we would actively train NPC onto others just to wipe them out and then our guild would corpse camp them as we dominated the dungeon for a week or two as we dominated the camps for gear as we geared up.

The only difference between SAO and EQ was the fact EQ players would scream and call each other niggers and faggots.

What SAO does good isn't making logical sense, but it knows how to evoke hype and emotions very well. Don't ask, shut up, and enjoy.

>Expecting me to remember something I read/watched years ago.

Yeah, I didn't care that much about it.

>SAO
>Kirito is OP
>BEATER CRINGE

>Bofuri
>Maple is OP
>WHO IS THIS GIRL Pog

It's like playing WoW in 2020 when FFXIV exists.

even then, I thought that later seasons were shit

>Oh, sorry, didn't know about that, yeah, in that case makes sense, disregard what I said above.

The basic idea anyway for both series was born around the same time. Though I think that SAO probably lifted some things later on from .hack. The Allicization one for example wasn't written till 2008. That mirrors a lot of the subplot in .hack with military making radiant AI. The season also forgets that Yui is already a radiant AI and treats Underworld and Alice as if they're something new. Also Asuna being overly cold to the people of Underworld by just outright telling them that their whole world is fake and their afterlife isn't real they're just ones and zeros; all despite having an AI daughter who she sees as her real child.

>SAO is based on MMOs from the 90s
no? author himself didn't really play that much games, he admitted in one interview

The real logical inconstancy to me is why people always harp on the "Hurr BEATER" thing anyway. Yes it was dumb and cringy, it was supposed to be that in-universe like said. It was there to set up the paranoia that existed even at the very begining of the 2.5 years the Death Game lasted, and show off that Kirito is a social incompetent with a martyr complex considering his answer to "hurr lynch the Betaniggers" was "If I make them all hate me, they will leave the other beta players alone! This can't possibly go wrong!"

But even then, the beta lasted for like 10 floors, meaning the second anyone steps up on the 11th floor the Beater nonsense no longer makes sense. The story all but says "and we pick up our tale two and a half years later on the 74th floor" so why do people always continue bringing the whole beater thing up in discussion all the time?

>SAO was written in the early 2000s and took reference from early MMO like Everquest
XI. Tons of LN writers actually played it. But I doubt SAO author was one of them.

>he admitted in one interview

[citation needed]

Because there are a bunch of interviews and novel end notes where he doesn't shut up about how Ultima Online was literally everything to him for years

SAO is more based on Tower of Druaga. It was an RPG in the 80s where you'd clear the 100 levels of the tower fighting floor bosses to progress. Same thing in SAO with having to defeat 100 floors each having a floor boss.

Have fun and skip the fairy things, you will enjoy it

>Gamers being retarded
Sounds right to me

>Kawahara would often head to the arcade with his fellow members to play fighting games. He also started playing online games in 1998, starting with Ultima Online. Kawahara also played Ragnarok Online, his most played game, World of Warcraft and Phantasy Star Online.
He was also shilling the PSO anime on his twitter. But thank you for opening my eyes, he actually has never played a single game.

lmao i didnt play till 06 but i heard about shit like this in RSC. Also cert-jews and cooking being one of the hardest skills to get high levels in

SAO isn't really a "video gaem anime" anymore. Those are still the setting but over the past 20 years the franchise has drifted more and more to being about AIs and the nature of Virtual Reality and human consciousness than "people play a game in VR".

Alicization was like 11 volumes in whats essentially the Matrix and focused on if AI are equivalent to real human beans than anything else. Unital Ring seems to be focused so far on the nature of Virtual Reality since its a story about [The Seed] flowering. Even Progressive is retconing early SAO to be much less about player skills and mechanics and more about the Cardinal system and emergent AI as "real people" instead of NPCs with Kizmel and the Elf War quest. Accel World has been 24 volumes about the nature of VR with a fighting game as as essentially a glorified background, and its also started moving toward "AIs and Humans" as well. Incarnation as a concept might as well have Lawrence Fishburne show up and say "Don't let the system control you, control it instead" to the characters.

Its thematically become a trans-humanist and AI focused Sci-FI as opposed to a VIDYA GAEMS YOU PLAY IN VR story.

So who took care of the player's bowel movements while they were in Death Game?

Do you not know that long term comas are a thing that happen to people in the real world?

Google is right there if you really want to know

Attached: 1541131980238.jpg (1080x1024, 58.58K)

You should read the subtitles since they were calling a cheater because he played the beta and didn't share the important shit in a life or death situation

Is it really sword art online anymore? haven't seen it past s2 and last time it was meme'd they were using guns and shieet.

So why did the game creator trap them in the game?

I love SAO to no end and the criticism it gets is both absurd and unfair. SAO is the first series of its kind.

Guess you just never matured beyond that then. Too bad.

Author has no idea how MMOs work.

Because he was obsessed with recreating the world from his childhood dreams in reality. And because he believed that world should be "real" he locked the 10k players in there with a death rule because hey you can't log out and die for real in real life too. Then he gave them the goal of reaching the 100th floor because that was the goal of his childhood dreams and also because without an objective the people he trapped would just hunker down in the starting city instead of venturing out to actually *live* in his world

Where are my release day reparations, Kirito?

When is that explained? I only saw the first season and I remember the creator just saying he "forgot" the reason why.
youtube.com/watch?v=sEVlN3j91Fo

He literally explains it in the very next sentence after "LOL I FORGOT". Watch the full video you just linked.

It gets expanded on later in S3 as well.

Nothing about Sword Art Online makes any sense, it's just a way for lonely middle schoolers to self-insert and pretend they have a harem

But beta testers spread the knowledge though. The people in that game were just stupid. I don't even blame sao in this case because I know if it happened in real life, people would be just as stupid

>no instances
Yas Forums told me SAO was shit.

This entire series is shit.

Okay, so what I got from that is that he created because it was his childhood dream. The rest of the stuff you mentioned I'm assuming was expanded upon.

Also, you mention hunkering down earlier, someone could just stay in the starting city while others just completed the game right?

>who he feels has any "unfair" edge on anyone else
Why would anyone give a shit about fairness, when it is about life and death?

He only explained why he wanted to create the game, but not why he trapped all those people inside it.

That gets explained later. Christ you people are watching an adaptation of volume 1 out of a (currently) 23 volume series and going EVERYTHING ISN'T SPOONFED TO ME IN THIS ONE SCENE

To be fair, something that important should have been explained clearly from the start.

>person who has never played a video game in his life makes a story about video games

why do so many of these writers do this? Just make an isekai or a fantasy show.

Not necessarily, "why is the villain doing this?" is something most narratives don't immediately answer, to keep both the characters and the audience guessing at the antagonist's motives and as a way to build mystery and suspense. Here it's done for both reasons since up until early Alicization where Rinko shows up and elaborates on Kayaba's side of things "why did he do this" was a driving factor in why Kirito in particular, who is always set as Kayaba's foil, stayed obsessed with VR

>Every fucking thread
>ThE auTHoR KnOWs NotHinG AboUT GaEMs

Do you trogladytes even read the fucking thread where this bullshit is disproved 5 times over
before shitposting? Its not like your retarded post 2005 themepark MMOs. It is however very nostalgic about late 90s/early2000s MMOs that I bet 90% of Yas Forums never played because they were fucking literal toddlers 20 years ago

Attached: 1537573060171.jpg (930x1000, 175.63K)

They could, and a lot of people did that. You see some of that when Kirito and Asuna goes looking for Yuis parents at one point. Lisbeth and Silica also both stayed on the relatively low floors.

90% of Yas Forums is still toddlers

Attached: Asuna_on_top_of_Lisbeth_with_no_armor_MT.png (1920x1080, 1.77M)

>That gets explained later.
Then don't fucking say it's explained in that video.

???
Are you blindly assuming that is me? And he *also* says
>It gets expanded on later
so you are wrong to imply he says its all explained in that video as well

The original comment literally said he forgot why he created the game, the video explains that.

Please user.
