Has there ever been a bad mentor in anime/manga? Someone who stunts the growth of the Mc or gives bad advice or is downright annoying
Has there ever been a bad mentor in anime/manga...
Kiriya from Senran Kagura
Four Vagina from Zeta Gundam
Urahara from Bleach
Jiraiya.
>One pupil became Hokage but learned nothing from him and basically did everything opposite of him by not being an alcoholic womanizer who's 50 and still hasn't married or had kids. Instead he uses Uzumaki seals and the 2nd's flash tech. Dies early unable to protect his wife and puts a literal living nuclear bomb with sentient malice into his own baby.
>3 pupils turn into terrorists who kill countless and start a terrorist organziation which kills him, destroys his village, and creates another world war before almost ending the world itself. Again, they mostly learn by not being like him.
>1 becomes a pervy guy, but learn close to nothing besides a bigger rasengan from him in 3 years of training. Kakashi then proceeds to give that same kid an S+ rank jutsu while completely revamping his fighting/strategic/training style within a month.
That bitch in C3-bu.
He trains champions, he can't be bad.
The old fart from Hajime no Ippo.
Misato Katsuragi from Evangelion
O X Y G E N
Guy on the right was assigned to "mentor" the guy on the left.
It didn't end well and despite what normies and plebs will say - it wasn't the sole fault of the student.
Happosai
He trains them to receive blows with the head. All of his champions would be better off without him
Also Minato.
>What do you mean, I got brain damage?
>How did that happen??
>we have purposely trained him wrong
>as a joke
I'd like to add Kakashi teaches Sasuke and he's still not satisfied runs away to Oro, never teaches Naruto or Sakura so they are forced to learn elsewhere the man truly was nothing but a failure.
he successfully taught them to teach themselves while he reads porn
You know you fucked up when your arch enemy, you swore to defeat, is a better teacher to your pawns, who are suppose to defeat him in the first place, than you.
He said that his abilities aren't for teaching, so he never did.
I was waiting for someone to post this absolute fuckup of a mentor. Her poor teaching is why Souichiro spent most of the manga getting his ass beat. The second that kid got an actual master, his skills skyrocketed.
Kamogawa's boxing methods are bad, but his actual training, conditioning and mitt-work for both Takamura and Ippo are sound. Takamura literally captures his second world title subconscious chasing Kamogawa's mitts while blind.
Gambino and Griffith from Berserk
Seijuro still trained Kenshin perfectly.
It was just that he doesn't give much damn because he is too fucking strong
Kakashi actually a good teacher tho.
Her reasons for wanting to defeat mitsuomi are retarded. She blames him for her brothers death when she was the one who started the whole thing by hunting his club members causing her brothers decent into madness. She's the reason mitsuomi and shin fought and in the end it was her brothers GF that killed him in a lovers suicide. Maya is fucking retarded.
Is he? He gave Sasuke chidori. That's it. Naruto and Sakura learned their stuff from everyone else.
Kiritsugu?
I posted him because he is well known as a good mentor.
>1 becomes a pervy guy, but learn close to nothing besides a bigger rasengan from him in 3 years of training.
>Kakashi then proceeds to give that same kid an S+ rank jutsu while completely revamping his fighting/strategic/training style within a month.
Also retaught Naruto how to use his own kage bunshin and element controls.
Taught all 3 the power of teamwork which they used to beat Kaguya. Kakashi knew that nakama power trumps everything in japanese Yas Forums.
Kakashi the best teacher in the entire Narutoverse.
>Takamura literally captures his second world title subconscious chasing Kamogawa's mitts while blind.
Third Ippo anime did a piss-poor job of showing this because the rushed pacing and post-match stuff that really made Eagle vs. Hawk good got cut.
Vegeta is not a mentor but Roshi berates Goku for learning stupid shit from Vegeta in DBS manga. And he is right. Vegeta is downright moronic. He uses ki spam that never works, gets surprised everytime it doesnt work and tries to overpower the enemy by brute force (it doesnt work). After his guerrilla warfare in Namek, Vegeta became the dumbest motherfucker in the whole series. Goku might be stupid outside battle but in battle has a finesse and creative use of skills that Vegeta simply doesnt have.
There's a saying. There are pleasant coaches and there are GOOD coaches.
Also Himura decided on his own to leave before his training was complete and refused to bulk-out all by himself even thought the style required to use effectively.
Love this mother fucker in the dub, he just keeps saying Amakakeru Ryƫ no Hirameki, THE FINAL ATTACK.
He taught Team 7 not to shy from the ugliness of the shinobi world. In a sense he instigated Naruto and Sasuke's individual ideas of revolution by being brutally honest about his experiences and losses. At the same time he laid the groundwork for Sasuke to retain some honor and morality when he left the village.
People give Kakashi shit for not being able to keep Sasuke from leaving but no other possible team leader would have been as effective in getting anything through to Sasuke before he left.
>kakashi defense force has assembled
Gambino sent Guts into battle when he was 5. There was no mentoring involved.
Tokita Niko
I want Obito to let Kakashi borrow his Sharingan again so they can save the Boruto manga.
Were the Masters in Kenichi bad or was Kenichi just that bad of a student?
Because when you have 3+ striking teachers and your best move is a dodge someone fucked up somewhere
There's a reason he was the only student
Never thought someone out there would would hate Four.
All might. Fails to mention the 7 part to deku
Does Saitama count?
Not really.
Ohma once he remembered everything about Niko style was a monster who only lost because A. He spammed Advanced (something Niko never taught him and he wanted Ohma to never use) and B. Because Ohma's amnesia locked away some of his moves for plot reasons he couldn't fight to the best of his abilities in the KAT and built up way too much damage.
An amnesia-less Ohma would have just walked through his fights with Inaba and Cosmo and would have sustained far less damage against Raian
Minato would have because Minato would just FTG blitz murder Orochimaru
Not really. Minato is just a victim of Flashbacks being unable to flesh out training.
Yet even then we see he can turn Naruto expy #13, Obito into someone capable of nearly touching the bell in Minato's test. Given Minato is the GOD of reaction times in Naruto that's impressive. But Obito also does not instantly lose to Kakashi in ninja kumite. Given Kakashi was THE prodigal ninja of that generation AND trained like a madman that also says something because really what Genin/Chunin at that point wouldn't just instantly be beat by Kakashi?
Rin of course is non factor because Women in Naruto Lul
how the author tries to pretend that shin was somehow a good guy after all is just hilarious
he trains talentes and phisically gifted people, he himself admits that takamura could be a champion regardless of his training, and ippo is really good himself.
Yeah but boxing method is the key component here.
Sure you can make the best sports car in the world, but you're not going to win if you take it to a monster truck competition.
One of his students died, Obito turned evil and Kakashi is a jobber and shitty teacher.
He's a shitty mentor.
With the exception of Tsunade not dying Sarutobi had the same problem and he is considered a genius in the verse.
Oro: Evil
Jiriya: Bad Teacher (arguably worse than Kakashi given how THREE YEARS he taught Naruto jack shit)
Tsunade: The most 1D fighter in the verse.
Kakashi
