Are japanese voice actors better than english voice actors?

Is jap dub cringy for japs?

yes

The average jap voice actor is better than the average English voice actor. Overall the Japanese take their jobs much seriously, have voice acting schools and the like. In Japan it is a profitable job that allows you to reach celebrity status, so pretty much everyone with genetic talent joins up too.

There is still bad voice acting in Japan, though. Just watch this season's Natsunagu or 22/7 to cringe at it.

If you're comparing against anime dubs, absolutely. If you're comparing Japanese VAs doing Japanese works to English language VAs doing productions with an actual budget, with a work that was originally written in English, they're basically the same in quality.
Competent English language VAs are probably a lot more expensive, though, due to the differences in how the unions and pay scales work.

english voice actors are 99% weebs who think emoting and overacting will shoehorn them into the industry. they have 0 training other than practicing alone in their rooms.

Probably why anime is so unpopular in Japan.

Good english voice actors aren't doing anime dubs.

Deadset

jap VA directors/producers are 10000% better than western VA directors/producers.

"good" english VAs are just people with unique sounding voices. no real depth.

>is jap dub cringy for japs?
Yes. In general, anime voice acting is pretty fucking awful. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't speak Japanese at a native level.

There's great English VA, there's shitty Japanese VA, great English actors aren't doing anime, at least not anymore.
The big issue with voice acting in English dubs are the god-awful directing. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the directors here?

No, fuck off.

They don't care, because the typical dub audience has no standards.

this is the real difference maker right here

I don't watch dubs but English voice acting has certainly gotten a lot better since we were kids. It's probably not too much worse.

Pretty much this.

>a lot better
Pokemon and Yugioghh disagrees. Both dubs are soulless as shit now.

Your opinion is worthless, EOP.

When did the meaning of 'soulless' just turn into 'new thing I don't like'?

hard pills to swallow

He's right, though, japanese voice acting is generally awful

>Anyone that says otherwise doesn't speak Japanese at a native level.
t. Nip wannabe, and no, no matter how hard you praise them, you will never be one of them gaijin-kun.

The only jobs for english VAs are kids shows, anime, and pixar films. Good luck finding quality through competition here.

>Is jap dub cringy for japs?
I remember one instance where the JPs were lambasting the voice of a certain character in an anime film I think.

I really forgot which one was it, but it was at least a few years back.

>22/7
They had a few years to trains those girls in voice acting before the anime but nah. Just make a regular idol group.

You know how when you watch a cartoon and not a single fucking character speaks like a normal person would? I imagine it's kind of the same thing for japs and their anime.

That's every form of nipponese stage production too, they're all stylized. Being natural would be unnatural.

The voice of adult Kyuuta in the boy and the beast was pretty widely disliked as far as i remember.

I wonder what people said about Anno in The Wind Rises?

I quite like a few English dubs, not near the level of original audio but if I need something in the background or something to just blindly watch I'll listen.
But what the fuck is with the majority of dubs and every character having the same retarded unnatural cadence when speaking?

Anime movies than to use regular actors or idols even. They're promoted almost like regular movies that's why they always use FOTM young actors.

If it's the person, it's an young actor not VA.

English VAs suck because they play it safe. They sound boring and uninterested with a minimum amount of effort put in.

I heard one complaint was that all Japanese women in anime speak like little children and it's cringey as hell for a Japanese speaker.

They don't have the budget to reanimate lip flaps, so they have to alter the script and the cadence to match. You'll typically notice that in scenes where there's dialogue but no facial animation (like dialogue over a static background) that the script and acting are more naturalistic.

I didn't know that.

What keeps popping in my head when I posted that was a character from Uchiage Hanabi (not even sure about this). The Shaft movie that the JPs were making fun off because it tried to ride the coattails of Your Name.

Dubs are hardly a place to look for quality voice acting.
Watch shrek and tell me the voice acting is bad.
Fucking weeaboos like
and need to off themselves in the traditional japanese method from ancestors with high standards and much dedication.

The top-tier professional ones are just good. They mostly work in anime. Cringe maybe, but they're objectively good.
Amateur ones are GODAWFUL like in bunch of RPG maker indie porn games and also some anime (check Nanamaru Sanbatsu dan 22/7)
And jap seiyuu in movie dubbing and other programs are just as plain and bad as American dubbing in foreign stuff.

>What keeps popping in my head when I posted that was a character from Uchiage Hanabi (not even sure about this). The Shaft movie that the JPs were making fun off because it tried to ride the coattails of Your Name.
Yeah the main cast were voiced by a FOTM young actor and actress.

The dirty little secret in Hollywood is that they'll have professional voice actors audition for parts, then use that audio as a guide for the celebrities that they inevitably cast to do the voice work.

big movies like shrek is 1% of voice acting. the other 99% is shit.

Why do the japs love giving the blonde girls English or German surnames?
Either way, I enjoy hearing their engrish every damn time.

Hey fuckface, don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say the west had better or worse voice actors. I said that the average Japanese voice actor is better than the average western voice actor. Not that the japs are better in general.

>Is jap dub cringy for japs?
It's not as cringy for them as the EN dub for us, but if you listen to non-children live-action shows or anime films voiced by the actors, you can notice that they never talk in the same way as the anime VAs.

>Dubs are hardly a place to look for quality voice acting.
Well is this Yas Forums so of course it's about anime dubs. Professional and good English voice actors don't do anime

Unless it's a Ghibli film.

>I didn't say the west had better or worse voice actors
>the average Japanese voice actor is better
alright retard.

>Is jap dub cringy for japs?
Yes. Reminder that she fucked an old sound director to get her roles.

this is probably because of the partnership with disney. big companies like that have a monopoly on good english voice actors.

english dub voice actors do their lines in isolated rooms and sometimes never meet other actors on the same show as them, while the japanese perform scenes while in the same room. also, all of the english dubs studios are based in Texas which you can assume doesnt have a comparable talent pool compared to somewhere like LA.

that should tell you all you need to know

ghibli films have the WORST dubs. That's probably more a consequence of the late-90s/early-00s being a surge in mature themed cartoons generally but they hire the worst name-actors for them.

>literally used Shrek as an example
Go compare a Jap low-budget production and a western low budget production.

>Are japanese voice actors better than english voice actors?
I honestly think it depends heavily on the translation and direction. Also, anime that use western settings can be translated more easily. I mean, both Gundam Unicorn and Gundam The Origins have very great English dubbing while anime with Japan as its setting are always difficult to translate in English -like most school romcoms.

disney made the worst ghibli dubs, too. they have nothing but contempt for animation.

Both are plain and awful.
Just buy any Steam shovelware porn game and listen for yourself.
Top voice actors are great regardless region.
one thing for sure, foreign dubbing is all awful. ALWAYS CONSUME WITH ORIGINAL VOICE.

Lies. She's pure.

Dubs are inherently bad. Japanese and English are very different. You have to mangle and contort a script to make it work in another language.
There's a significant advantage to one side. Comparing them is basically pointless. It's like racing a motorbike and a scooter. A scooter might do "good for a scooter", and some scooters might be faster than a very slow motorbike, but at the end of the day it's naturally disadvantaged.

>they have nothing but contempt for animation
yeah that's why they rescued ghibli and by proxy essentially the entire anime industry from being cut up and rewrote by american studios. nice try.

same goes for subs though, learn the language or go home.

There are guys like Blum or Hayter who just have a particular voice that's perfect for a type but can still perform a character and do impressions as that character, but they're union. Anime dubbing is mostly community theater dropouts who got into little startups early because they could translate or do accounting and casted their friends until they had small ponds to rule.

any anime JP dub: great
any anime EN dub: garbage

Avengers EN dub: great
Avengers JP dub: garbage

Shaolin Soccer CN dub: great
Shaolin Soccer EN/JP dub: garbage

and so on

Jus stop watching foreign dubbing of any kind you dumb americans. It's always, 100% of the time, inferior to the original. It could be "decent", but it can't be better.

Lip flaps

Sometimes I don't want what's objectively superior.

subs aren't objectively superior, they ruin the cinematography

I'm not autistic enough to let that impact my enjoyment.
