Internal energy manipulation seems like it's esoteric enough to not have fallen under a normal curriculum. Complicated further by just how much energy Kazuya can throw around so between synchonizing with multiple tsukumogami, as well as getting a more formal tutor; he's figuring this out.
Madarame also knew this kind of energy sensing so it's easily a higher level technique.

If you're interested in the manga, the anime does a decent job of adapting it. Not the best animation, but nothing could compare to Hamada's artwork anyway.

Most of the time the users have to spend the tsukumogami's energy and power, but he is strong enough to have his own moves and also supplying power to the tsukumogami instead.
