Wrong. Even in ancient Rome there were a whole lot of books on how to improve the economical effectivness of slaves because it was known for a fact that slave work sucks. They just got plenty of slaves from the successful wars so the supply was cheap during war times. In peace times there was immediate decline. Also, slave won't fight and risk his life (in isekai they do for shallow bullshit reasons) for you but free worker will. Hence why the North beat the South, among with other reasons.
