he did training off screen that was detailed in a light novel. the anime does adapt it in the witch's forest arc, but unfortunately, they do so very haphazardly and cut out of lot of SoL-ish stuff that ends up making it feel rushed.

He doesn’t, or at least not at first. He’s just swinging that huge, blunt sword casually like you would with a bat or club. Asta is buff as fuck and nearly everyone else on the whole goddamn continent is a woman or a twink, going full unga bunga with a 150 pound slab of anti-magic steel is all he needs to beat shitters.
That being said, he does learn actual sword techniques later on.

Ive reread a little bit of early clover recently and it deals a lot more with history/politics of the world and has a lot more interesting fantasy aspects I would enjoy if it felt more like a fantasy series than a shonen with magic if that makes any sense at all

Still love the series though a fun and easy read with super cute girls, always a win
