Why? Kakine is the number 2. His original plan wasn't to fight Accelerator. He was mostly only reasonably confident he could fight Accelerator, and this was after making prior leg work on figuring out how his vectors work. Getting blindsided by something wouldn't really break much of anything.

The protagonist isn't going to unambiguously lose and never get back at who they lost to, first off, so let's get that out of the way first. Kakine wouldn't lose confidence in his DM over something so small. He still keeps the look of his wings despite his sensitivity over them, it takes a lot to make him reflect on himself.
