So, I've just finished Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable, of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. .

I seriously have some problems with this part.

It's 39 episodes long, and yet I feel like nothing really happens until the last 10. People say it picks up around episode 20 when Kira appears, but that's sort of a lie. Nothing MAJOR really happens until Hayato starts getting screentime.

So when I first started watching JoJo what I really loved most about it is that even if there were pacing issues at times, it didn't really feel like there was any filler and most everything that happened had a purpose. DiU feels a bit aimless, when watching the first 10 episodes or so I couldn't help but feel like nothing was happening and this was all filler.

I don't really care about many of the characters. There's a lot of them, but they don't really interact. I liked the chef, but, he never mattered after the episode he appeared in, so that's why I've forgotten his name. I enjoy Josuke and Jotaro. Mikitaka was great, but still, he doesn't really DO anything, which is the problem.

I know i'm sort of rambling but I'm really not sure what to think of this part. The villain wasn't very likable for me, he just bitches and moans like a baby who shit his diaper about being bothered even if he's being bothered by the most miniscule, unimportant thing, when he literally goes around killing people. Fuckin OCD ass.

The things I enjoyed:
Joseph Joestar. Had just the right amount of screentime. I didn't even expect him to be in this part in the beginning. Would've been cool to see more of the baby tho.
Josuke/Jotaro. Josuke is a competent JoJo, and Jotaro being there to sort of mentor him was a nice touch.
The chef and Mikitaka were my favorite side characters. I also liked Rohan, any time he was on screen was a fun time.
Hayato. Great character, and he's the only one who really starts to make the plot move. After 30 episodes.

What I didn't like: Everything else.

eh, i dont see the necessity for every part to be this huge overarching guy trying to take over the world plot. i enjoyed it for what it was, a more lighthearted approach to the series.

i enjoy the idea of not every stand user having an ultimate super duper evil plot, them just being regular people who now have superpowers running into conflict with other superpowered ghost psychic fucks.

josuke was the most fun personality of the animated jojos so far, excepting part 2 joseph.

they really are just regular people in a regular town, enjoy it for what it is.

There is a pattern in the the manga in which Araki looks for ways to go in a different direction than the last part he wrote instead of topping himself. In Part 2 he wrote a hero that was a rascal instead of a heroic figure and fights were about the underdog using their head to win. In Part 3 he created a new power source where having bigger numbers did not guarantee victory. In Part 4 Araki took the epic, traveling heroes out to save the world and subverted it by setting it in a single town where the heroes only travel within it and the villain only threatens that community.

Part 4 is where Stands and Araki's storytelling style truly come into their own. It explores the concept of Stands rather than taking them for granted. You get stands like Pearl Jam, Harvest, or Cinderella that show Stands in a non-combative role and tell stories that are not about fighting. You get Echoes which shows how a Stand can evolve as a character grows. It introduces the Stand Arrow which serves as a common origin for Stands and which is further expanded upon in Part 5. The town of Morioh is like Springfield, South Park, or Castle Rock but with Stands. The plot of Part 4 is about getting to know the people who live there and how there is a bond between them as in the end it's not just Josuke that defeats Kira but symbolically it is the whole town that defeats him. And afterward life goes on. There could be all kinds of wacky slice-of-life or sitcom adventures to come when Part 4 ends unlike how every other Part ends in which the hero's journey is complete and the JoJo has peaked in their heroic career.

In the end I like Part 4 but I can see why others might not like it since Araki deliberately did something different with it. I like it precisely because it stands out for that. It's a cliche but JoJo is about the journey and every part leaves one wanting more because every Part feels like a separate manga that could have gone on for two to three times as long.

But that's all anime parts besides the first 1
In part 3 nothing happens until the last 2-3 chapters.
In part 4 nothings happens until the early twenties and then after that nothing happens again until the last 3-4
In part 5 same as part 4.
Jojo's doesn't have plot, it's a villain of the week type of show where Araki drags that part until he wants to finish it.

please stop making part 4 threads

> Nothing happens
Explain what "something happening" is.

>has problems with diu being 39 episodes when fucking stardust crusaders has 48
filtered by one of the best parts
but seriously, despite you not realizing it because of the more slice-of-life style, almost every episode of part 4 feeds into things that lead to the plot being resolved or develops characters in some way.

Either it’s because of the dub or one guy who wants a JoJo general

Jojofags finally realizing their favorite series isn't that good?

this should just be copy pasted whenever some faggot complains that nothing happens in part 4

The dub is halfway through Part 5 right now.

It's a good post overall but the part about the stand arrows is kind of pointless, especially since not all Part 4 characters got stands from the arrow.

90% of part 3 is filler

Name one arc that does not directly tie into the main plot of traveling to DIO while fighting his minions along the way

It started after the Part 4 dub ended, but that was half a year ago at this point.

Part 3 is a Saturday Morning cartoon where Araki explores a new idea by thinking of powers that are somehow based on Major Arcana and Egyptian gods. Not everything needs to be a tightly plotted serial. What matters is what happens within any given story.

imagine speedwatching Jojo and calling part 4 filler

It is literally filler and ruins Joseph

youtu.be/AYXSfNI0rRM

Define "filler."

Diamond is Unbreakable

2>3>5>1>4

Stand Arrow, and the meteor it's made out of, is effectively the origin of all stand powers and by that all inherited powers by proxy.

Literally the dumbest thing araki has done in all of JoJo is explain stand powers is due to an alien virus

Did he watch Episode 1 during Part 5?

Based

These:

That's not true though, since people can get stands naturally. The arrow is just one method that can awaken stands.

And jesus.

cringe

Is the Part 4 hate just a forced meme, or is there just a higher than usual autism level because of the coronavirus?

I'm willing to bet that over half of all Jojo threads made this year have been Part 4 hate threads, all with the same "I just finished Part 4" excuse. Someone clearly has too much time on their hands.

Based.

it's probably just because all the free time recently that people have right now. there's no better time to start branching out and those who decided to check out jojo after watching a traditional shounen just dont like part four because, "Is ToO SlooW, M e WamNt ActiOn In AlMoosT eVwY EpiSOoode", and part four isnt what they think a show like jojo should or could be like (not saying it should be a slice of life).

6 > 7 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 1 > 3

All the other parts at least have some goal that they are actively working to achieve and do a decent job at staying relevant on achieving that goal. Sure, they might take long as fuck but in part 4 theirs entire character arcs that don't progress shit towards the main goal except for some super minor detail that didn't need 2-3 eps of being introduced to some bland side character in order to achieve it. It makes it feel like all the other characters are dicking around for most of the time where all the parts still feel like what the characters are doing is actually achieving something.

4fags will tell you the protagonists prancing around the city and encountering random shitters who are evil just because is amazing slice of life.

cringe

Amazing or not it is slice of life in a heightened reality.

It's not SOL because there's no focus on the character's mundane lives, in fact it's the opposite of that

Part 4 was good and you posting this thread every day won't change my opinion, faggot

>introduces the Stand Arrow which serves as a common origin for Stands and which is further expanded upon in Part 5.
''expanded upon'' in the worst way possible you mean? A criminal organization getting their hands on stand arrows is a great premise but good lord is it insultingly not touched upon whatsoever. The midichlorians backstory is retarded and Requiem is a last-second lazy asspull to quickly end the part, should not even be counted.

Maybe people hate it because it's shit.

bla bla bla why dont u like a part with characters who dont interact and a plot that never fucking happens

Chad

Jesus is an alien virus confirmed.

and that's why I completely skipped this part apart from the first and last 2 episodes.

Maybe you're a faggot

You’re a fucking idiot

Quints tell no lies

I hope you're kidding.

t. NPC

Not Part 4's problem.

> no focus on the character's mundane lives
Then why do people say that "nothing happens?" Why do people criticize it for characters doing things not directly related to the plot? A decent amount of the stories involve the characters doing mundane things that are heightened by the presence of Stands.

The post implied that expanding upon the arrow was a good thing
