The majority of old anime were moe girls and and "soft boys". Buff, masculine anime protagonists were always a minority, even in the 80s, and were mostly a manga thing instead.
I have three things to say about the pic 1. That's just cherry-picking 2. That's not that old (mid 90s - early 00s) 3. They're still manlier than the current protags.
>>That's just cherry-picking So is claiming Guts and Kenshiro represent the majority of 80s protagonists. >2. That's not that old (mid 90s - early 00s) Half of those are from the early 90s, actually. Only two of those protagonists on the left are from the early 00s. >3. They're still manlier than the current protags. Half of the characters on the left are dense harem protagonists and the other half are literally Shinji clones while a good chunk of the people on the right actually fuck their girl.

>current anime is bad because it doens't pander to my muscle fetish Amazing argument.
Juan Gomez
Look like girls. Where are the manly men like him?
>The majority of old anime were moe girls and and "soft boys". Citation needed

but THIS is the QUINTESSENTIAL 80s protagonist
Robert Gray
>the early 90s Still not that old. There are no characters from the 70s and 80s. Also, the left of the pic contains some unfamous OVAs. Isn't it unfair?
Hey dipshit The reason Hokuto no Ken managed to become popular was because it massively went against the grain when it came out. It was all fucking Romcoms with "relatable" SI MCs.

>I only liked two of the worst parts
Juan Robinson
Nobody never said that. More like 70s, 80s and early 90s vs late 90s, 00s and 10s.
Jeremiah Carter
>More like 70s, 80s and early 90s vs late 90s, 00s and 10s. They're all completely different decades with completely different trends, it's dumb to lump them together.
That image is 90s vs 10s. Regardless, 90s really -is- that old. Most of these shows aired within 10 years of Hokuto no Ken's airing or Berserk's first publish.
Not to mention Berserk started running in 1989, it's closer in time to some of the stuff on the 90s side of that image than it is to Hokuto no Ken.

I wonder if people realize that the start of the nineties was 30 years ago.

Maybe Yas Forums is full of boomers.
Cooper Wilson
I still occasionally think of the 90s as 10 years ago. My sense of time is still stuck in the early to mid 00s.

>Guts or Kenshiro Have you read Kingdom? Pure testosterone
Evan Murphy
Old school mcs were there to inspire. Nu mcs are there to self insert.
Blake Clark
>Why are there so few masculine buff men like Guts or Kenshiro? Because let's be real, you wouldn't watch or read them even if they were more popular and still claim OLD = GOOD NEW = BAD
this people like OP just want to bitch bitch bitch. Even when Japan does make/adapt series for them they never watch it and it bombs and when it does get popular it's usually because it's watched by those "moefags" they do hate who actually do watch anime.
Elijah Scott
>the Gundam MC with the highest on-screen killscore, arguably one of the most skilled >/ss/ incarnated and got the girl in the end
Can't vouch for the others but Uso being there is a plus for the guys in the left desu
Brayden Lopez
>2020 >Baki gets re-adapted >Dorohedoro gets adapted >Jojo gets 5 parts adapted >Blade of the Immortal gets adapted >Vinland Saga gets adapted >Castlevania gets adapted >Golden Kamuy gets adapted >DB gets revived >Drifters gets adapted >OP is still a whiny little cuntboy
what do you women want?
Jackson Foster
anime is objectively pretty garbage right now. most/all of the harem, isekai, romance, shounen, and slice of life shit needs to be deleted.
