Should I watch the original devilman before watching crybaby?

No. You should read the original manga then pretend Crybaby doesn't exist.
Fuck no. The original Devilman OVAs have no soul.
You should watch Kemonozume and then Crybaby.
>Kemonozume
What does this have to do with Devilman?
70s Devilman? Not really worth it. Better to read the manga.
80s Devilman? Yeah. It's pretty cool.
Then watch Crybaby and cry that you couldn't shitpost about it with us when he first came out.
Read the original manga and Devilman Lady.
Just watch Devilman Crybaby then read the manga. Don't listen to the nostalgiafags. I've seen the old OVAs & they were meh.
Just watch Devil May Cry.
It was Yuasa's take on the premise of Devilman before Crybaby.
Crybaby incorporates a lot of concepts and ideas from the OVAs, Lady, and other stuff, so if you read and watch those first you can appreciate their inclusion and take on it. But it's not necessary to do so before watching Crybaby, and frankly, much of it is kind of forgettable or bad. Like Lady.
Read the manga and then thrust deeply into the Nagaiverse
>Nagaiverse
What's this? Do you have a chart or introduction video?
Been a while since I've seen someone needing to be spoonfed this hard.
70s Devilman anime is cool and isn't really connected to Devilman beyond some designs and names which also applies to Maou Dante.
>Maou Dante
Is this good?
The manga is good but unfinished.
The anime is alright but the American release was censored.
You should watch neither, it was overrated shit bach then just as it is now.
Only the original is unfinished. The manga remake, Shin Maou Dante, is complete and is really good.
I don't give a shit
新 or 真?

Yuasa actually didn't fuck it up so crybaby is actually decent. Go read the damn manga first, it's practically required.
What original?
Read the manga, it's a masterpiece.
Then watch Crybaby. It's really enjoyable and an interesting take on story.
There was an anime made in the 70's of it, but really people should read the devil man manga, it's a classic for a good reason.
Hahahahahaha.
Read it.
Don't read the manga, it will make you nitpick everything and you will not enjoy the show
Watch Crybaby THEN read the manga
I like how Yas Forums pretends they liked devilman after crybaby came out
I like how raging homosexuals act as Go Nagai is some underground creator nobody has ever heard of, and Devilman isn't one of the most famous and best selling manga ever.

You're an idiot because everytime someone tried to have a discussion on go nagai's manga (before crybaby) everyone would immediately call his manga shit, say his art is shit and say his stories are shit. Now you're acting like a fanboy all of a sudden you sheep
>everyone would immediately call his manga shit, say his art is shit and say his stories are shit.
No, not everyone. Just trolls like yourself.
>the show
Calling a series a "show" tells me exactly what kind of person you are.
And, no, you don't have to have read the manga to notice Crybaby's massive flaws, some of which have nothing to do with it being a subpar adaptation and are simply down to bad animation and, even worse, lacklustre character writing.
3*
>dude strawberry sundaes lmao
what the fuck even was the anime
There's no issue with experiencing Crybaby first as long as you make sure to read the OG manga and watch the films as well as the Apocalypse OVA
Cyborg 009 vs Devilman was fun
>Apocalypse OVA
I bet that thing was a huge letdown for the people that paid the original PPV release
>I bet that thing was a huge letdown for the people that paid the original PPV release
I'm sure it was, I fucking hated it the first time I watched it but then I kept coming back to it.
Its honestly one of my favorite OVAs ever
>There's no issue with experiencing Crybaby first
The problem with that approach is that it gives you completely wrong expectations for what the actual Devilman is about, and it might turn you off the franchise as a whole.
crybaby is a good starting point to the rest of the devilman media
so who was in the wrong here?
No, it isn't.
>so who was in the wrong here?
The one who pretends that Crybaby is in any way representative of, let alone a good intoduction into the Devilman franchise, when it changed literally every character or theme the manga had and only copied the plotpoints without context.
watch Kemonozume instead
it's funny how the heavily Devilman inspired series Yuasa made is way better than his actual Devilman adaptation
What are the chances that Crybaby is so shit partially because Netflix forced Yuasa to pozz it up?
Keep in mind they did the same shit to Saint Seiya
Watch just Crybaby.
>What are the chances that Crybaby is so shit partially because Netflix forced Yuasa to pozz it up?
Next to zero. It was produced for Netflix, but Netflix was not involved in any creative decisions. They apparently weren't even represented in the production board.
Yuasa and Okouchi just didn't get the manga and were more concerned with making something edgy to cater to a certain auidience. They have to own up to it. And Okouchi isn't a good writer in the first place. Most of the characters not having any arcs or even just consistent personalities is down to his incompetence.
Was Go Nagai not involved?
This
based
cringe
No. Not in any active fashion. They still had to credit him as the original creator of course. He does have the copyright.
Not to be confused with the other remake by a different author, also called Shin Maou Dante.
yes but watch it in english
Hey, only the first half of this post is true. Crybaby is great.
>forced
>Crybaby is great.
No, it isn't.
Fpbp /thread.
Good post.
seethe
Just read Go Nagai works.
Crybaby is a different kind of animal, and it should be treated like one. Both the OG manga and crybaby are enjoyable, but the clear winner is the manga. People are still mad, because they expected a more faithful adaptation instead they got an anime, which is obviously more appealing to a wider audience. Its not bad, its just not what most people wanted when they saw the Devilman title.
