I know I might be in the minority for saying this, but does anyone else think Part 4 of Jojo is a bit overrated and not that good? I read through it about a month ago as per recommendation but I honestly felt it was pretty weak compared to Parts 2 and 3. They don’t even go on an adventure in this part and stay in the same town. No new locations except houses, sidewalks, and fields. Not only that, most of the fights have no reason to happen, unlike the paid assassins in Parts 4 and 5. Kira just asspulls the entire part and isn’t that compelling because he gets random bullshit until Araki wrote himself into a corner and had to bullshit a truck running him over for no reason.
Part 4 is a result of Araki being forced to continue the series after the conclusive ending of Part 3. He was literally making stuff up as he went along and it shows. That’s why Kira doesn’t even exist until half way and he had to contrive a way to make fights happen. He also forgot to send josuke back in time to save himself

It gets overrated a lot here. There are too many characters, to the point that Josuke himself feels less like a protagonist and more like a side-character. It's kind of sad that an 8 year old kid with no Stand who gets introduced two-thirds of the way into the story is a more dynamic and interesting character than any of the heroes except maybe Rohan. Seriously, Okuyasu does fuck-all from the moment he's introduced except job to Red Hot Chili Pepper and eat Tonio's food. Koichi and Jotaro don't do anything between fighting Sheer Heart Attack and delivering the coup de grace to Kira. Joseph just hangs out for the entire manga. And then there are characters like Yuya, Mikitaka and Hazamada who are inexplicably given one-shot roles as allies and then totally forgotten about. The plot also meanders a lot. As much as people harp on Part 3 for being "stand user of the week", Part 4 is much worse with this. In Part 3, there was a constant sense of progression as the group got closer and closer to Dio on their journey. In Part 4, there isn't really an overarching goal until halfway through the story, and it winds up getting put on pause a lot in spite of that. Most of the manga is spent watching the characters aimlessly wander around and get into fights with enemy stand users.

Part 4 casts a wide net by having tons of characters and has a more down-to-earth setting. And to a lesser extent, I think the Stand powers in this part struck a better balance of creativity and simplicity than they did in later parts.
The story is pretty dogshit but anyone who reads for the story is an idiot.

So why didn't Joseph just use Hermit Purple to find Kira? The whole reason he came to Morioh was to find Red Hot Chili Pepper with his stand, so why not use it when they need to find another guy? What's even the point of bringing Joseph into the part when he doesn't contribute to the plot nor Josuke's development (they spend like one day together).

It was precise enough to take a picture of DIO detailed enough to make out a birthmark and neck scarring all the way in Japan and despite the fact DIO was powerful enough to sense being watched. There's no reason Hermit Purple wouldn't have been able to take a picture of Kira's new face.
