Don't you buy manga anymore?

HxH 33, 34
Monster 1-15
Rurouni Kenshin 1-28
The first manga I bought was Touch, all volumes, but I sold it.

Currently I'm waiting on the last volume of yagakimi and then I'll import Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer.

How did you learn japanese?

first was D Gray Man, almost a decade ago.
can't post bookshelf because i'm in quarantine and can't have access to it.
i have 1000+ physical copies of manga and 1 anime Deluxe box with few artworks and stuffs (Jormungand).
despite that it still fits under 1 big bed and a smaller one, so i think i don't actually have that much compared to huge collections.
all my other animes are in my HDD's.

The Voynich hotel vol 2 3
Attack on titan vol 1 i stole from a local comic store

Attached: 20200323_175230.jpg (4032x3024, 3.52M)

well shit, you're lucky to have the Voynich hotel, we don't have it in France sadly.

also why stealing Attack on titan ?

I used the resources in /jp/ 's Japanese thread and practiced 30 minutes to an hour nearly every day.

pffft, reading manga is pretty simple.
Watching anime without (Japanese) subs is still impossible for me.

for how long ?

Yes. I have about 400 volumes.
Mostly original Japanese, but I'm buying American releases, mostly Yen Press because only their releases are not butchered - (translation and typesetting). Seven Seas is good too (translation, and tyesetting partially, but I much prefer Yen Press way of handling the signs and sounds).
I don't buy any manga released in my country, because everything is translated like commie, sometimes even worse, because they are often altering character names too. And redrawing all sounds. 100% trash.

>hxh physical manga copies
Virgin detected

I've been at it for about five years now. After a couple months of practice you should be able to read simple stuff like Dragon Ball. So long as you do your reps you should be able to read more and more stuff.

>the Voynich hotel
I bought it from amazon
>also why stealing Attack on titan?
Because it was on the floor no one was looking so i just took it

can a japanese understand you (if you write ?)
also are you practicing with japanese people ?
and how difficult is it to memorize the characters ?
would it be not too hard to learn for a French ?

First one was Pokemon Adventure.

Yes. Some of those the stuff I bought were things I got while I was in Japan and while there were rough parts I was able to get by just fine. Hiragana and katakana are easy for the most part. Kanji can be a bitch. I don't know any french so I can't say for sure but if it's possible for a native English speaker it should be just as possible for a French one.

but what method did you use to memorize the characters ?
i did a bit of OCR in a thread and while i kinda understand that characters are supposed to look like things (like a mountain, a TV, a dude, etc...) sometimes it just doesn't look like anything to me, so how do you do it ?

Based Hunterchad. Impressive collection, my friend.

I used Anki and for every new kanji I ran into I wrote it down 50 to 100 times. Plus I made sure to learn around ten or so a week. And the thing about how kanji looks like what it's supposed to represent is mostly a meme.

>Hiragana and katakana are easy for the most part.
kana is literally 1-2 days.
>i kinda understand that characters are supposed to look like things
Nope.
It's more like kanji are build from simpler characters called radicals (some of them are used as standalone characters too). And these these characters are often pretty logical (like to most common example of 木, 林, 森 - tree, woods, forest). SOME kanji looks like objects that they are describing, but it's rather risky.

compounds, not characters, sorry.

>SOME kanji looks like objects that they are describing, but it's rather risky.
And it depends on your imagination.
Mnemonics learning is a key of learning kanji btw.

well shit, my memory's not that good so it seems like a nightmare to study.

It may be helpful, but so far I've found the most important thing is reading every day.

Yes
FMA
I would but I've been quarantined away from my house so there's only the stuff I bought while at Uni.

My collection in russian.
The first manga I bought was first volume of spice and wolf. I saw it 5 years ago, before that I didn’t even think that someone was publishing manga here.
Over the past year, the manga industry in russia has grown very much, publishers began to publish one piece, akira, fma, abyss, licensed evangelion, berserk, fate zero and fake. I hope the upcoming crisis will not bury all this.

Attached: PicsArt_.jpg (1717x2289, 1.15M)

based taste

nice collection.
sorry to say this but this crisis is going to be a blow for everyone, seems more minor in Russia but it's going to be big in France, i hope little Editors won't sink.
because there was a lot of releases in March but because of the quarantine we can't buy anything in physical copies.

Are russian publishers as retarded as these retards in my country? Censorship, heavy localization, name changes, no honorifics, sounds redrawing (and other things), popculture replacement etc?

Based ToGODshit poster this isn't your collection though, is it?
Based importchad
Based Frecnhie
Please do not organize your volumes like that.
>JoJo8
Is this an Italian or French release?
>russians get hardcovers for everything
Fucking bullshit

Nice one.

italian

>viz
ugh

You should check the /djt/ threads on either Yas Forums or /jp/ (only the OPs, its mostly shitposting below that unless you ask a question)
By characters, do you mean kanji? People are kinda split on how to go about that, but the recent trend is to just read real content (like manga and visual novels) using something like rikaichamp and keep an eye on the kanji that pops up often.
It's the fastest method (even though its still slow as hell), but it's also a pretty brutal route that will potentially frustrate you into quitting.
You'll likely drop it a couple times, but eventually you'll get a momentum going.

They’re not the best, but they are the only English options for a large chunk of physical manga releases.
And they’re better than the shot show that is Denpa, why the fuck did they get Kaiji.
If you’re referring to their anime though, yeah, it’s pretty bad. Bleach Vol 1 had a shitton of errors, Pokémon was 4Kids only, but Ranma looks nice from what I’ve seen, and when the fuck is HxH99 getting a BD?

holy molly, but how do Japanese even learn their language then ?
if it's so hard do they even understand each other ???
it seems even harder than learning how to draw a manga.

Getting close to the 1000 mark, my 3 bookshelves are running out of space soon.
That's like 90% of everything published here, with a random assortment of English shit.

first manga i bought was naruto. this was way back in the 2000s. currently finishing up dorohedoro. missing blade of the immortal 27 & 29 cuz they’re impossible to find

most i picked up while i was in japan (some for 100yen). unfortunately i could not take more home because my suitcases were literally bursting.

Attached: IMG_20200323_190839.jpg (4000x3000, 3.2M)

This is all I own. I will have the full set once we get all the translations already pre ordered the volumes

Attached: 15849871015664604899647066181660.jpg (4032x3024, 2.23M)

Too much yuri.

I own the first 12 volumes of Berserk (well, 15, but that shit to me might as well have ended on volume 12).

Its the only manga I care about

Yen Press, Kodansha and Seven Seas are universes better in literally every aspect. There's nothing to compare. Viz is like 4kids.

Some of my physical collection. The book next to Fire Punch is "Onwards Towards Our Noble Deaths".

Attached: IMG_20200313_191238.jpg (2560x1920, 743.49K)

Fire punch is next on my list for volumes to buy. I really love fujimotos work and I'm sure it's better on paperback

> Censorship
Only in made in abyss. Art under dust jacket was removed.
>heavy localization, name changes
No
>no honorifics, sounds redrawing
In the manga where the action takes place in Japan, honorifics leave, in the other not. Sounds used to be redrawn by many publishers, but since it was long and expensive, almost all stopped.
>popculture replacement
No

Attached: abyss.jpg (715x791, 112.07K)

so every country is better than mine...

Look up words you don't know,
Add them to your anki flash card deck,
Do flash card reviews every day,
You can get pretty good if you study two hours a day for two years

I only buy manga in Spanish, and only shit for manly men like me.

Attached: cropped.jpg (4128x1692, 3.21M)

My collection is all over the place since it was hard to find manga in my shitty town back in the day.

Berserk 1-40 + Guidebook
Devilman Classic Collection Volumes 1-2
Devilman G volumes 1-2
Bakuman 1-2
Inuyasha omnibus 1
Some of them are from my brother when he was younger.
Ranma 1/2 volumes 12, 14, 16 (left to right, 2004 edition)
Tenchi Muyo volume 1 (either 2001 or 2002)
DBZ volume 1 (2001, has "As Seen On Cartoon Network" label on cover)

Edgy and shounen shit

samefag

I don't feel like taking a picture so this is what I got
>Berserk Deluxe v.1-3
>FLCL Omnibus
>NGE Deluxe v.1-4
>I Am A Hero Omnibus 1
>SnK Colossal Edition 1
The art in SnK 99% of the time doesn't need the deluxe treatment, at least not until volume 18 or 19. I'm just not a fan of singular volumes.
First one was NGE Deluxe v.1. That's what got me into that series.
Planning on picking up the latest Berserk deluxe volume, along with the rest of the SnK deluxes. Also planning on picking up the pic related when it releases later this year.

Did you even bother looking at the photos?

would it be better to get the box set over the colossal edition for SnK? i was going to get the box sets if we burgers get our trumpbux

I think the first manga I ever bought was naruto

Attached: C5C3001B-8FFC-4D91-93A2-D12DEE129790.jpg (4032x3024, 3.81M)

I rarely buy physical releases unless it's something I really like or want to support the mangaka. A few of em (Bakuman, Inuyasha) are something I bought on impulse years ago when I was still new to anime/manga.

nah

As a fellow french I share your pain user

>keeps box
>but it's ripped
user, you are the niggest of niggers.

for some reason i kinda understand what they say in my animes without the subtitles (but i'm pretty sure it must be basic japanese), i've been interested in writing it but i started drawing before that and it's way easier than learning Japanese.

Oh right, I forgot about the Zelda manga boxset.
