thanks. ive been wanting to check out the game since i believe it just became available for xbx. is there any order to the game/content; what would come after this pso2 anime in terms of the story? personally id love if we got more of the anime since ive really enjoyed watching this so far

The anime covers episodes 1-3 of the ingame story, but it cuts off subplots, adds anime only things (such as the shit from last week's episode about Luther creating the MC) and changes the order of some events, so if you play you should do the story from the start (if you can handle the horrible cutscene system and the 2012-tier ayy lmao models for old story stuff).

Glad we're on the same page. I once had an argument with some other dude who insisted that the new "cutscene selection screen" is actually way better than the old method of storytelling. The fuck? The Matter Board system had tons of problems, yes, but I can't for the life of me defend the way Episode 1-3 story is being handled in-game right now. Just cutscenes; no in-dungeon events, no context, no flow. Just fucking cutscenes you view while in the lobby, disconnected from eveything else. Disgusting. Holy shit, what was SEGA thinking. PSO, a game that's already over 20 years old, did storytelling better than what PSO2 is currently doing to its Episode 1-3 content. Thankfully the actual story of PSO2 Ep 1-3 is still good. It's just the method of delivery that's fucked.

Yeah, I'm a newshit so I wasn't here to witness the old system, but at some point I realized something felt off. The story felt disjointed and too short. Some scenes felt like they should play in the maps. Then I went in my room and discovered that over half of the fucking story is there instead of presented to you properly.

Am I the only one who thought this episode was terrible? For the anime onlys who dont know, they changed quite a bit with how this ending is playing out. I don't feel like this episode captured any of the impact and gravity of the final Episode 3 chapter at all, it feels so weak. Its a real shame that they cut so much from the game to go anime original just to butcher the ending this badly. I didn't think the adaptations were too bad up to this point but this one falls so flat compared to the game. I'm really not looking forward to the last episode at this point.

That's the thing, this episode adapted what should have been a lot of very serious and emotional moments as well, but they all felt really weak compared to how the game did it. It makes sense to go anime original to cut things but it feels like they changed so much stuff in Episode 3 for no real reason without really saving themselves any time. The Persona reveal didn't have to happen early, all of the anime original stuff in this episode didn't have to happen in general. Its like they changed things just for the sake of it.
If you're an anime only and you liked this episode I STRONGLY urge you to play the game and experience the story yourself, this chapter especially is 100x better in the game.
