The first four made perfect sense on why they were generic and one dimensional. This is a span of 4 weeks and all based on Homura perspective. This is why I loved rebellion. It really added a lot to the characters and how everything tied together so well.

The original series had like one maybe two decent characters (madoka and sayaka). Rebellion actually made homura not a bland one-dimensional character and thus it was worthwhile to the series.

The problem with Madoka is that most people are just plainly too low IQ to understand it.
You probably can‘t even follow the basic setting by the end of rebellion.
A dead giveaway for that is when someone thinks: „B-But Homura fucked up the whole world!!!“
If you think that then you didn‘t even understand THE SETTING. There was never a „world that could have been fucked up“ to begin with. If you don‘t get even this, then it makes sense that you don‘t understand the things that are build on top of that.

The next level after that or perhaps an equally retarded pitfall is: „Madoka is just dark and edgy. (Lel that’s cool/ok edgelord)“
Try measuring how cynical vs idealistic a show is. Madoka is by FAR the most idealistic show there is.
It’s basically a show about love and friendship overcoming the harshest and most hopeless circumstances possible. Madokas edgy parts in the end of ends are there in order to show that there is no wall to high to overcome.
It’s a triple bluff: it’s a show about love and friendship masking as an edgy show which pretends to be about love and friendship on the surface.
If you don‘t get that, then you don’t understand Madoka.

Those are two fundamental basics that I often see people fail at.

No one with over room temp iq praises it for being dark and grim, because it's not. That is an aspect of the show enjoyed by people who have never seriously watched magical girl anime and think anything more serious than a perfect happy ending and a scraped knee is "subverting the genre". I wouldn't even say it has edgy parts. And the "only good for shock value" arguments are foolish as well. The moment Mami made her emotional connection with Madoka in the charlotte labyrinth I realized she was going to die within 5 minutes, it was expertly foreshadowed in my opinion.
