I have a weird relationship with Deku.
As a battle shonen character, I honestly think he's great -- he kicks ass, he defies the odds, he risks his life, and he's an all around nice guy.
But as a slice of life character, I hate his fucking guts.
It's hard to explain, it's like an instinctual disgust of his beta-ness.
Like how he creams himself if a girl so much as glances at him or how he has that weird Stockholm syndrome for Bakugo.
And it's just bizarre because by all logic he SHOULD be a total alpha chad, or at the very least a normal teenage boy.
I think part of it is he doesn't really seem to get angry at anything
Like, whenever he fights a villain, it feels more like he's focusing on his own inner turmoil or completing his mission rather than a personal dislike of the villain; even with someone as horrible as Overhaul it was more like "I'm gonna beat this guy and save Eri" rather than "This guy is a fucking monster, I'm going to bash his skull in".
Which you could argue is the right, more professional attitude to have in stressful situations, but I don't know, it just doesn't seem realistic to me.
