I believe Sasuke, without the Mangekyo and its negative side effects, could have beaten Naruto in sage mode.

The problem is that Kishimoto doesn't know how to write an interesting fight without someone using a stupid overpowered cheat power.

Sasuke was only stronger than Naruto up until Naruto got sage mode. Keep in mind that the War arc was significantly longer than any Shippuden arc and KM Naruto was vastly stronger than EMS Sasuke. Sasuke always has inferior chakra levels and strength, he only ever beat Naruto in the beginning of TS because he has more techniques up his sleeve.

Sage Naruto would fucking obliterate Sasuke. At this point he had both refined taijutsu (as shown when he destroyed the cloud ninjas) and incredible brute force (as shown when he threw giant rhinos in the sky and even the kyubi).

Summit Sasuke's only hope to beat SM Naruto would be to spam Susanoo and hope to actually land a hit, but he's most likely get fucked at some point.

Even if he did spam Susanoo, Naruto is significantly faster in Sage Mode and can just keep dodging him. That's the problem with any Naruto vs Sasuke fight besides early Shippuden. Naruto has significantly higher chakra reserves than Sasuke, so he can always win any war of attrition. That was remedied by Sasuke being able to absorb Naruto's chakra but he still fucking lost because Kishi is a hack. Sasuke had no business losing the last fight with Rinnegan.

Sauce knows how to manage his thots. That's true battle strength.

Sakura desperately needed to at least tearfully punch the shit out of a nearly blind, tired Sasuke she SHOULD have been trained to at least fight long before that complete wanking bullshit at the hideout. Literally why the fuck was there no fight against a heavily handicapped Sasuke like even the games thought to? The entire fiasco is one of the most pathetic unsatisfying things in the entire manga and it should have been the second most anticipated one than the actual final fight, which was even WORSE and rushed as fuck.

Sasuke was shown to be a brilliant and insanely hard working person. Additionally he has the Sharingan which further helps him to learn.

So Sage mode vs Mangekyou Sharingan would have been a fair fight, not only Sasuke can do multiple shuriken tricks that the IQ of Narutard can't see, he can use surprise genjutsu to land sneaky attacks, and his Susanoo was mostly complete.
Not to forget no one can regenerate from black fire attacks, just a bit of fire and you have to remove that part of your body.

I think he'd be overwhelmed. Sharingan helped Sasuke keep up with the 4th Raikage but only for a very brief period of time. He couldn't actually harm him. But most importantly, the issue here isn't that Naruto would overwhelm Sauce with his speed but that even one of his sage punches would be enough to badly harm him. He could oneshot Pain bodies with those.

Maybe thanks to Amaterasu and Susano spamming (although the latter would only delay Sauce's demise). It probably wouldn't be too one-sided since Naruto would have to use his head to deal with those intelligently, but if Sauce tried to go taijutsu on him he'd get horribly rekt.
