I think it looks promising. Simplistic, but good at the same time. There will be new scenes too (attic scene with Rika and Satoko), and based on the bat scene, they didn't tone down the gore (thank God for that). Original voice actors are also back.
based on their designs, I'd say they are following the Kizuna sprites.
And K1 finally knows how to dress.

Hopefully they pace it better. But iffy on the new art style but it's still an improvement over the first run. By this point I think I'd actually prefer an Umineko remake that didn't try to rush so hard and have empathetic Beatrice the attention she deserved. Anime just focused on her bitch side.

Akio Watanabe is a fantastic choice for character designer, very excited for what he's bringing to the show. Characters look great. Also glad that Studio Deen aren't involved with this, given how much dick they have sucked for the last decade. I am gonna miss the constant off model key frames and the "what the fuck" faces though, it added to the charm and helped make the more psychotic moments feel more uncanny valley, as backhanded of a compliment that is.

Overall, OP, I'd say it's looking pretty great so far. But I am remaining cautiously optimistic.

I agree, but after the design change in Kai, these faces had gone for good, same with the gore.
Which is a fucking shame, because they really gave the series a spooky feeling. Just compare Teppei's anime and manga Minagoroshi-hen scenes, or the gutting out part at the end.

In Ryukishi's version they're even younger, console version aged them up apparently. According to Ryukishi, K1, Rena, and Shmion are junior high school students age-wise, while according to console version they're highschoolers.

From the PV it doesn't look better than original (on the level to warrant a remake). Also I already know the mystery, it will never have the same effect on me.

I'm currently reading it, 5 years after watching the anime.
Simultaneously I'm rewatching the show for a comparison and I can tell you the first arc is very, very rushed. Some of the comedy/sol scenes are either cut out or shortened to few seconds ( while in the vn they last a few minuts ) and there moments that are memorable in the original but the anime made them feel rushed and kinda campy.
The vn is definitely a different experience.
