Actually, the problem goes two ways. The industry provides only asexual stuff, and the anime watchers eat it up. It doesn't mean they like it, they just watch it. This show got a lot of positive feedback, mostly because they aren't the prudes they are made out to be. They are like that 14 year old, who has so far only seen the stuff on softcore porn channels, when suddenly older brother turns on the actual hardcore stuff.
Also, when that otaku politician said that he would take a stand against censorship, all those otakus came out of their holes and gave him massive support. Meaning yes, everyone from lonely businessmen to virgin otakus, want to see some pussy.

Its probably the usual situation, girls in those shows arent allowed to actually deliver physical payoff because "it makes them dirty" and that might damage the brand when the otaku fans of that girl get broken hearts over it. But this isnt some new observation I just made up of course, anyone who keeps up with this stuff can see it happen.

But do they really think like that? Or does the industry think that the fanbase thinks like that, thus putting out more of this kind of stuff, thus making everyone think that that's how they think. I highly doubt that purityfags have as much of a presence, as the amount of shows pandering to them would have you believe. I think japan is growing up, but their media is holding them back something fierce. The positive reactions to reviewers prove that they in fact like it when hanky-panky happens on screen.

Thats the big question isnt it. A chunk of them atleast does, and those are the fanatics that go burning studios, so they kind of have to pander to that. Obviously the majority doesnt see the girls like that but they also dont make enough noise about it to send the message of "Its okay if the MC has sex with them" or whatever. Studios cant make shots in the dark with these matters and hope that it pays off, they have to look at the feedback and sales numbers. Thats why Reviewers selling so well is so important.

You also run the risk that some people might see this as an opportunity and blow it out of proportion. They'll see this success and start injecting series with girls/dudes that are both sexually active and also promiscuous. No harm done in a series like this, but they might start saying that hey, this girl who is fucking all the baseball team ain't that bad, and that she's the MC too. Dunno how relevant shipperfags are in Japan, but I can imagine they won't like it when it's clearly defined who is fucking who, instead of the masochist tango of so many series.

What they need to do is to increase the amount of ecchi shows with sex. Then they can take a look at like 4 seasons, where a tame ecchi show ran side by side with a sex ecchi show. Then the numbers will do the talking.

But how about those Harem shows where there are a dozen best girls, and the mc doesn't even fuck the main one? What if we play fast and loose, and have mc get some from the girls? Instead of getting into a dozen sexual yet awkward scenarios with the girls, then get interrupted and then the show ends. I just cant imagine that there are still people out there who find that scenario to be actually unironically enjoyable and funny. It's more done to death than anything anime has ever done.

No harm done in doing some of them, but not so much that it becomes the trend, like isekai, because that would also run the risk of growing stale, and what was once novel and fun is now less so. And yes, a harem where he scores with a couple of them would be nice. This is why I liked the omnibus format like Amagami, every girl had their time to shine and every girl was getting plowed at one time or another.

Usually endings make me feel really good. A good ending gives you a sense of completion. This here however makes me feel empty inside. I guess we'll always have the manga. I wonder how long will that keep on going? And how will it end?
