The weakest part of the original show by far was always the worldbuilding, people still have extremely autistic arguments about how magic works and what it can do, what Incubators actually are, how karmic destiny and wishes work, what the deeper mechanics of witches and grief seeds are, and god knows what else because lots of mechanical details are very transiently mentioned or partially explained without being fleshed out at all. I wouldn't advocate for actually explaining these things because they don't really matter and it would hurt the pacing, but the more you try to make things in this universe the more this issue is highlighted.

My thoughts of the side story so far:
I am the biggest madoka magica fan. I've watched the series over 40 times(yes i counted), rebellion 8 times but this..... this aint it chief. sorry no. I am incredibly dissappointed in this side story. I was expecting the iconic and infamous madoka magica dark and twisted flair but all i got was fanservice and a trashy plot. I'm really hoping for the next episode to be better. I played the game and the game's storyline is better. Yes, the game's story is just as bad. But, I spent hours an hours, forcing myself to play the game in hopes the story would get better and my patience was rewarded with HOLY MAMI. That was the only thing I was excited for and they gave me this. WTF is this????????? THey didn't even show HOLY MAMI!!!!!!! I am hoping the sequel isn't as horrible as this. I am still going to watch the next episode in hopes they actually made the show worth it. I will be pissed if they wasted my time with this crap.
The madoka magica I know is deep and complex. And instead I got cheap trash anime that is pretty much like every other series. Madoka Magica was revolutionary in a way that changed the magical girl genre forver. This? I would instantly forget I watched this. (Not really. I probably will remember how much I hated this. Reminds me of SAO and how it went downhill with each series/movie they released).
I will be furious is they are releasing a second season.
