I know that, but that's what I'm saying, by dealing with it as early as G, Chris kind of ran out of things to do, and since her whole family was dead they couldn't be brought up for new things like what happened with Hibiki and Tsubasa

What I'm saying is that I don't think this subplot could've been stretched more.
They should've doubled down on Val Verde stuff. Like the muh leg subplot but also tackle the PTSD stuff about what she's been through and also show how Chris struggles but is ultimately willing to dirty her hands if she situation calls for it. It'd be pretty close to the CHANGE THE FUTURE thing but a bit more developed and more specific on her actual trauma, I think that'd be enough.
Also focus a bit more on her relationship with Gen (not talking about shipping here), it was one of the highlights of season 1.

Yeah, G was still doing fine with the cast because the 3 new girls were the antagonists, but starting from AXZ we've been getting 6 main girls, Elfnein, 3 antagonists and sometimes another final boss.
The earlier seasons are definitely GOAT. The later seasons are cool and have some great highlights.

AXZ was by the books, but still pretty great. The cool bits were, for the most part, cooler than GX, but at the same time it didn't have lows as low as GX. The character development episodes were vastly better (partly because they were for two characters instead of one, which helps crafting more interesting interactions).

The plot with Tsubasa and Maria was foil to their conflict in G with their positions now swapped. Tsubasa who was acting as an agent of evil out of grief of her failure is something only Maria could understand and resue Tsubasa from.
