The Earth gems are backwards cavemen that don't want anything to change even if it means eternally fighting the lunarians. Phos even gave them centuries of peace but every time Phos has come back they've treated him as an enemy because they're unwilling to listen to what Phos says. Though Aechmea is still being shady so that's an issue, but the big issue is that nobody is willing to peacefully communicate and figure out what to do.

It would be nice if the gems could just talk to each other but in this case, what can they do? Let Phos make Sensei pray and everyone goes poof. It's not like Phos set a great standard for open communication by lying about the moon, whisking a bunch of gems away, then the whole Night Raid fiasco.

Why is it so likely that it's going to fail? Phos is going to accomplish his goal, crush any and all gems who would stand between her and sensei. The end goal was to get sensei to pray, but the goal for this massive show of force was to remove all obstacles preventing her from at least trying to finish getting Sensei to pray.

I mean...it's not as if getting the gems out of the way is difficult in the slightest with the Lunarians on her side. That's not really what I'm referring to in terms of Phos failing or succeeding.

Ichikawa isn't lazy, she works on a contract with afternoon magazine, and she's only allowed to draw a certain amount of pages per issue of the magazine. And there are various other factors that can intervene in these contracts, for example; the chapters started getting shorter around the time pokemon sun and moon was in development, and as we know she's a concept designer for both characters and pokemons. She probably entered in a agreement of still publishing her manga but with fewer pages and keep working at game freak, instead of putting the manga on a hiatus and work only as a concept artist.

It does seem like some cases of manga chapters being short is because the magazine tells the mangaka how many pages they want. But I really don't know how that works. Like Young Animal for instance, the magazine Berserk is in, gave Miura over 100 pages for the first chapter (which, the first chapter of a manga being longer than normal is standard) and I don't think every other chapter after that was ~20 pages. But I was reading Ai-Ren, which was in the same magazine, and all of its chapters are between 20-30 pages. I don't read any other manga from that magazine so I don't know what is considered standard there.

As for Afternoon, I recall that YKK's chapters were all really short, usually under 20 pages. But other manga I've read from the magazine, like Mushishi, iirc its chapters were usually around 40 pages. So maybe it's a combination of what the magazine wants and what Ichikawa wants. Like they agreed upon an average page number before the manga started or something.

I just can't see Phos actually succeeding in getting Sensei to pray and go through with it all the way, but surely something terrible is going to happen either way.
