Part of what makes this so cringe is that his chad powerlevel is usually something stupid like he picked up her hat when she dropped it 2 years ago. Or the worst one where he randomly sees her being hit on and she has apparently forgotten how both her legs and mouth work and "chad mc" has to save her.
When even ugly girls are catcalled on the sidewalk, the idea that a pretty girl has no way to deal with that interaction is truly the dumbest shit.

I agree that this sucks.

I like pseudo harems as long as it doesn't actually go into all girls wanting MC's cock. The original Utawarerumono does this well (if you ignore the horrible H-scenes) and so does Mask of Deception and Majikoi (since your love interests are mostly restricted to the routes). Grand Blue could've done it well if it Iori didn't have a female getting wet over him every time he does something remotely cool.

tl;dr: I like pseudo harems where friendship is more important.

Nah, Rin was always the rival and cockblock. To say she is a "third wheel annoying neighbor character" is speedreading levels of comprehension.

Her existence has three reasons:
1. To make the manga last longer by cockblocking the main girl and main guy from having sex
2. As the rival, she is the anti-main girl (longer hair, conservative/old fashioned, not a slut, bigger breasts)
3. The fanservice girl

A funny thing happened, the rival girl became the most popular girl and the reason the series sells. Probably contrary to the manga artist's wishes, her editors probably told her "make more chapter's starring Rin or we cancel your manga."

That's why inexplicably, somewhere around volume 5, the main focus went from the main girl to her rival. With the manga artist grudgingly doing it because the girl she designed to be the MC was sidelined for the chick that was supposed to appear 4 or 5 pages every volume.

It also explains why she shit so hard on Rin in the end. She hated that Ui was less popular than Rin, she hated that Rin is the reason her manga sold 2 million copies and got 2 seasons, she hated that the series fans spoke loud and clear and chose the other girl.

The manga is so fucking shitty people don't want to scan it anymore. I always buy Yumi Nakata's stuff, and this is the first manga I didn't even bother, it just fucking sucks.
