A lack of good editors.

More like Kishi being cocky & not listening to editors after his previous success.

It was too generic, the artstyle was hard to look at, and the pacing was all over the place.

Kishi should have either stuck with a sci-fi setting or a traditional samurai setting, not both. The contrast just didn't really work out. A disabled kid who played vidya for years suddenly gets a super strong body and is a naturally good samurai thanks to all the vidya he played? and then he gets a waifu 5 chapters in? At least Naruto started with a ton of world building and purposefully slow pacing, Samurai 8 resorted to power level shit in the first volume. This is George Lucas syndrome all over again. All of a sudden, there's no one willing to tell him "no" and then he fucks everything up.

Lightning didn't strike twice.

Moot decided to allow anyone who comes here to stay resulting in a massive decline in post/thread quality.

Who the fuck is Moot?

bland MC design. seriously, he almost looks like a background character. I don't even remember his name.

Chapter 1 of this was really good doe, it was unique in more than one sense and I was already getting ready to defend it with all my might here but... seriously, how in the fuck, like, just 2 chapters into this shit and they already made him the chosen one? The point of the first chapter was to establish the character as an isolated kid wanting to explore the whole universe finally having the chance to do so, not LE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST SAGE OF THE 80 PATHS KYUBY SUPER SAIYAN MUH TALENT GON-SAN BULLSHIT, tes I was mad but it was a big nope from me, did it got any better?

Excessive exposition
Overcomplicated a simple power system
Bad art lacked shading and contrast
Bratty Gary Stu MC
Bland characters
Generic save-the-universe plot
Antagonists lack any motivation or charisma
Dialogue that sounds like a chuunibyou wrote it
Poorly established setting (don't learn anything about places, factions or how people live)
Prioritized themes instead of the smaller details (tried incorporating wabi-sabi, quantum mechanics, schrodinger's cat, Higgs boson particles, etc)

not enough waifus.

I blame the lack of real stakes. Fights are pointless because the samurai dont take actual physical damage. They only die if they 'lose their will to fight' or whatever.

The two main characters are also pretty boring. Hachimaru lost all of his unique character when he stopped being a cripple, and confirming over and over that Ann is endgame would be ok if she had any character to speak of.

It's honestly a shame because I thought the side characters and setting were interesting.

Also I thing kishimoto forgot how to have small scale battles. Part of what I enjoyed about early naruto was that battles were small and strategic in a sense. I doubt I'd ever have cottoned to naruto if it was dragonball style 'I win because my energy blast was bigger' style fights

So to summarize: everything that could go wrong with execution, went wrong.
And this is Kishi's passion project. Do you think he feels humiliated with how bad it flopped?

He's probably gonna sabotage and crash Boruto out of bitterness.

Let's hope so, him and his brother need to do a collaboration together. Both of them have there own far share of manga problems that could be solved if they worked together on something.

he said he was taking a vacation, so he was probably feeling stressed.

Bad background art, Excessive exposition

>Prioritized themes instead of the smaller details (tried incorporating wabi-sabi, quantum mechanics, schrodinger's cat, Higgs boson particles, etc)
That's literally the opposite of priotorizing themes, and focused too much on these little details. Themes would be more like Samurai spirit and such

wow

Hmm I dunno, maybe I didn't word it right. Basically those things I mentioned are likely to be the main reason for the manga existing and why Kishi was so enamored by sci-fi. We have wabi-sabi, the philosophy that it's okay to be imperfect which is why many of the characters have disabilities (stuttering, crippled, blindness, amnesia, gender dysphoria, etc). Then we have Daruma who's a cat person using a dog sword style (schrodinger's cat) and how the series focuses on perception. Then we have a vague focus on "gravity" and how the universe is composed of H-particles. (Higgs boson)

When I speak of smaller details, that relates to what I said about a poorly established setting. We don't learn about any places, factions, cultures or lifestyles. It's always about the plot and the higher themes. All we get are name drops of different sword styles with no further explanation, a single panel teasing a planet and race of oni people and mentions of there being a sphere sector and a cube sector. Again those mostly focus on the themes instead of establishing a lived in universe.

rip moot, founder of 9gag

didn't chew hard enough duh

So is the fairy tail author the only one to actually be successful with their next work after their first big hit?

Mad Chimera World was better.

Rave was pretty well liked. Eden's Zero has massive, buttfuck loads of potential (although its starting to veer into the nakama bullshit, I really dont want them getting buddy buddy with Draken)

Oh yeah I forgot about Rave. I guess he's been maintaining pretty decent levels of popularity for a while.

Go educate yourself, Mashimafag. Toriyama became a household name with Dr Slump, Dragonball was his second and even bigger hit.

>I couldn't even remember his name
>yet you accuse me of being a "mashimafag"

It's time to commit suicide dragontard.

Mashima is pretty impressive to be so consistent considering how many other prolific mangakas had trouble getting another series going. Pic stolen from Mangahelpers.

You have only read two manga in your entire life? Several authors striked gold more than once, Mashima is far from being the only one.

- Togashi: Yu Yu Hakusho -> Hunter X Hunter
- Toriyama: Dr Slump -> Dragonball
- Inoue: Slam Dunk -> Vagabond
- Rumiko Takashi: A whole fucking ton of them, but Ramma, Urusei Yatsura, Inu Yasha, Maison ikkoku.

It didn't have Kikuchiyo

Time to read more than two manga in your life, you uneducated pleb.

It seldom does, unfortunately. I really enjoyed it while it lasted, but I got this same feeling from it since chapter 1.

if you dont please the fujochad crowd you got the axe.

It's very lame and the MC is also very lame and it's cluttered and well it's very lame.

I read up to chapter 8 and still am 0% invested or interested in any of these events or characters.

He’ll bring it back after a while. The way it’s ending leaves a lot room for that. I just hope he learns from the first flop if he ever decides to do that.

I only understand what is happening in 60% of the panels.

>don't please the fujo crowd
What? There's even a damn gender neutral character in it, it failed because it sucks.

Rumiko Takahashi is the greatest returnee and her name isn't in your pic.

Better question is why hasn't Hiroyuki Nakano been fired yet after Samurai 8? Any competent editor would have thrown chapter 1 into the trashcan and asked Kishimoto to start from scratch cause it's blatantly early axe material. It's one thing for Nakano to be incompetent but why aren't the higher ups in Shueisha realizing that he's driving the magazine to the ground?

Yeah there's a lot missing. I guess I'll add two of my favorites.
Raiku Makoto: Konjiki no Gash -> Doubutsu no Kuni (too bad Vector Ball became a failure)
Azuma Kiyohiko: Azumanga Daioh -> Yotsubato!

this, mangaka should understand that their consumers are having semen for a brain

>why hasn't the editor in chief been fired because 1 series was axed?
The better question is why are you retarded?

yes, because he knows what people want: fun, action and big ol' titties. He's liek the Michael Bay of manga.

Attached: becky.jpg (1035x1113, 631.96K)

I knew it was bad but i'm surprised it got axed. There just didn't seem to be a story. It felt like a chinese manga. You know the kind that just copies parts of good mangas and mashes them together expecting some sort of money maker to pop out

Nothing the Hack just gets exposed

The character designs looked hideous

>yes
No, 5 replies already showed why.

Why can he literally only draw one character?

Doesn't need to inovate since his dedicated fans don't really care as long as the girls are hot.

Is this gonna be Kishi's equivalent of 'the heart' from now on?

Burrito is next

Why can’t we go one S8 thread without someone shilling Fairy Tail in Space? Fuckers are even start to infest OP threads now

Sounds like he tried to make naruto again but without tricking people into a great arc followed by garbage.

Why can't you ESL subhumans just fuck off?

Not sure why Ryu Fujisaki is considered a failure. Shiki got 11 volumes, Kakuryo Monogatari got 8 volumes, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes is still ongoing with like 15+ volumes right now. Shiki even had an anime.

It's a shounen jump only list.

oh fuck, we trading out kishimoto for kubo? fucking nice

Ah. I see.

I mean, look at that drawing, everything is in color but you're still not sure what some of those stuffs are supposed to be. Everything seems to have the same texture or made from the same 'fabric'. Now imagine a full b&w chapter ( which is 90% white ) with minimal screen tone and casual reader will get headache just from trying to digest the art, let alone the story. And those floating shits just straight annoying to look at.

boruto is around

Moot is Kitten's alt.

Underrated post.

I remember when mashima was not a samefacefag
