Frieza was fine for a few times but he didnt produce as much as jiren on this site.
The thing is that he wasnt supposed to be the antagonist at first. It was originally toppo apprently in the drafts but later it got changed and they switched personalities. I felt toppo fit more especially if they had defeated him being god of destruction mode it would have been better balanced to show their growth rather than goku just bullshitting ui to beat a guy stronger than all the gods.

He looks more like an alien than Jiren.

Fixed. Jiren is a breath of fresh air in the Dragonball series in terms of characterization. People only hate him because he's not "I'm evil and smug el oh el" like every other DB antagonist, only King Piccolo, Frieza, and Buu are exceptions.

He was the ultimate antagonist of the dragonball series. Everyone was hyped to see him fight and he stood there focused like a epic badass because no one was even worth his time. Once he fucking moved the whole world of nothingness shook because of his unlimited unmatched power. He was THEE enemy you knew Goku couldn't possible beat alone and the whole world of dragonball, villains and heros alike had to unite to even stand a chance against him. Even Gokus asspull powerups meant nothing to the guy and the best they could manage is sacrificing themselves to move him out of the ring.

It's not generic in the context of Dragonball. I'm not saying his backstory was that deep either. His backstory isn't even that important. What matters is that Jiren is a stoic warrior that decided to rely purely on himself and grinded himself all the way to God tier without anything like zenkai. His goal to find what lies beyond strength is noble and interesting to see. It's not like Jiren has much competition in DB, outside of Piccolo, Frieza, and Buu, most DB antagonists are underwhelming and can be summed up as just being smug and evil; Frieza too, but Frieza is iconic, pulled it off best, and had more to offer.
Jiren's downfall is not even his own fault, it's that all of this is taking place in a battle royale tournament with several other universe that lasts an hour. There's not a lot of room for characterization which is why it had to be spoonfed to the audience in a quick, half-assed way.

It's really important when it's his entire reason to be in the tournament. No, him being stoic and silent isn't much character.

He's there for his goal of obtaining absolute strength. The story wouldn't have changed at all if Belmond didn't randomly tell us Jiren's past. The pursuit of strength itself was more important than why he was doing it. There was no change to the narrative after we learned about Jiren's past.

He’s definitely Superman but more with Martian Manhunter’s personality...a misguided one at that. Batman would never target bystanders and would figure out how to win in the first five minutes.

But he’s so interesting because DB did an AMAZING job of making us want to eliminate him. He actually goes through multiple developments...from cold and stoic, to raging bloodlust insane (targeting U7), to that peeerfect smile of tranquilty before the final bout...where it seems he almost wants to lose to Goku, Frieza, and 17...just to be proved wrong. The arc ends with Goku sparking a fire in him and it feels like for us, the character had just begun...all that right after the best fight in Super nor counting Broly movie. His story is just beginning. His crew is amazing (Dipso & Toppo). And it’ll be great to see even more developments (perhaps he takes a hit for another universe to attone for his one dishonerable act)...so much potential.

But yea he’s basically Alien Superman. And the edge of your seat high stakes of the ToP were literally only because of Jiren. If you called that it would be those three to take him out well I’m calling bs.

There were no real stakes of the ToP even with Jiren existing. everyone knew U7 would win and wish the universes back. Not to mention how 90-100% of universal erasures were caused by their team alone and no other universe.
