It's shocking how little has been accomplished in 60 chapters. Oda's been more concerned with shoehorning Japanese references than actually forwarding the story. In fact, the whole Island of Wano feels very uninteresting compared to other locations we've visited like Fishmen Island and WCI. Though I don't hold it too much against Wano. After all, Alabasta's pretty barren and uninteresting itself but it was still a great arc.

Oda has also all but given up on the Strawhats as protagonist in this story. Everyone else gets nothing to do besides play possum until they get their one cool panel time. There's little dynamism going on in their involvement. It's just flat. Even Zoro who everyone likes to say does a lot has just been running fucking circles until he got a new shitty sword and has played a purely reactive role and nothing else.

The Beast Pirates are total jokes. Too many Smile fruit users are just there to see how grotesque their designs are and nothing more. Kaido's got 0 agency in an arc where he's suppose to be the main antagonist. Just shove in even more characters into this already bloated arc, too, while you're at it.

And the ones Oda's been shilling and pushing to the center stage, the Kozuki family, are fucking lame. There's too much disconnect between me and Oden, yet his story is suppose to be the most intimate display seen in the series based on the Strawhats reaction to his tale. All I've seen is a selfish prick who ended playing second fiddle to both Whitebeard and Roger, the only good parts of his shitty flashback. His vassals are one note jobbers who just magically fell in love with him because he's "the coolest." They're less like loyal warriors and more like pathetic sycophants. Kin'emon is actually the only half way decent one since he has a defined background and reason for being loyal to Oden.

Probably the same reason Croc got significantly weaker in Alabasta than he was in his prime. He found a nice, comfortable place where he could be the strongest person around without having to try or put in any effort. Then, after a few years of being lazy, not training, not pushing yourself, and not fighting anyone on your level, you get out of shape and weak.

Also, to be fair, I think Jinbe is just unusually strong. Arlong was weak, and Hody had to rely on steroids for his strength. It's probably not fair to compare most fishmen to Jinbe

Oden's wife, as that is what she is really so I'll address her as such, is totally barren of any kind of characterization and is just a baby factory and lazy deus ex machina. Her connection to the void century purely incidental and was just slap together to justify a reason for her being a time traveler.
Bland Whore, as that is what she is at the end of it all, is just as bland as Oden's wife. Her gig as a prostitute feels slapped together because again, Oda just wants to make pointless japanese references. You could've just introduced her as seen in the Kamazo shit and nothing would change. Making us wonder what the point was earlier. Her character doesn't improve, however, because after we're formally introduced to her, we get a shit princess character who's just a clone of her mother, Oden's wife. Yapping and delivering pointless exposition and offering nothing to the overall plot besides being another bland pretty face. Momonosuke to my shock is probably the most interesting of this whole shitty family as he experiences real growth and true pathos that carries him later in the story. He's still not good as he has failed to deliver any real agency and is just a princess character in shota form.

Back to the Beast Pirates, their threat level was compromised so Oda can sell us on shitty nippon stronk meme. Yet these samurai are whom we are fighting on behalf of.

I have no faith in the rest of the arc. What remains is just fight faggotry. Oda's never been good at fights besides a few, and even then they are usually the least interesting things in One Piece. What I'm going into is a war where I feel nothing for the characters Oda's tried to make me care about, and the ones I normally do like the Strawhats, I know will come out of this ok like every other arc, but Oda's fucked up in engaging them and me to this conflict. Fuck Wano and fuck all dicksuckers who can't admit Oda fucked up.

The Kozukis are crap characters ranging from Gary Stus to plot devices, and the fact that them and thier retainers are taking all of the spotlight makes the entire arc shitty since it's hard to give a fuck.
In 60 chapters, the only thaing that happened are Big Mom and Kaido allying, Luffy getting some training so he can reveal a new BS powerup later, and 80% of the rest was dedicated to exposition on how Wano and thr Kozukis are so brave and strong and tragic and on gathering fodder who we know will be irrelevant in the end.
Oda did fuck up, he wanted to write a grand story on Wano but can't because this grand story is just an arc in One Piece. Because of that he had to shove aside all the actual protagonists and give us a bunch of shitty reasons to care about Wano, by wanking it hard, making it the strongest, most relevant island where all the mysterious stuff like Sea Stone and Poneglyphs come from.
In the end that failed for me, and it's no wonder that all of the hype moments were during intermissions that did not happen in Wano and in the flashback when it focused on Roger and Whitebeard.

I'm sorry, this arc sucks. The pacing is all over the place; everything is either rushed or takes up more time than it needs to. Every page is filled with dialogue and all of it is really confusing and sloppy (For example, Kaido's dialogue talking about "that hag"). I honestly don't even know what the fuck is going on most of the time which is a shame because in older arcs you could at least follow the small things because they were written a lot better. Here? It' just a fucking mess and I just don't even bother and wait for the big events.

A better question is why was Arlong so full of shit? He knew that fishmen were kept as slaves in the New World, and he knew that, between pirates and marines, there were tons of humans stronger than fishmen, hell, he even had to bribe the marines because if Smoker had gotten the stick out of his ass for one second, even him with his jobbing record would have made them sushi. And he had the gall to say that fishmen were the superior race? Fishmen are a jobber race, not as bad as giants, but for guys with a 10x base strenght, they generally suck.
