While the source material is indeed a popular korean manhwa, since the anime adaptation is made in Japan by Japanese with Japanese seiyuu one could debate that it is Yas Forums-relevant. In the end, the are quite some anime works that adapt things different from manga, LNs or VNs. Though indeed anime based on webtoons is novel.

Well, to be fair ToG was never really heavy or even good on story, pacing, character development.
What it's good in, and for what it's actually liked, is the lore. Well, at least I'd say so. I never really was able to care about the story beyond basic things like "Baam is MC and I grew to him so him kicking some ass is kinda nice" and "I like %girl_name%, hope MC'll be with her".
But I do care about all the numerous mysteries and riddles SIU created off top of his head getting cleared.
So I think you're trying to enjoy its weak parts. Try to read it for its strong ones and chances are you're going to have a fun time.
