I found that the anime really missed out on a lot of the nice details that the VN provided. Without there being the perspective from Okabe on a lot of scenes, there was significantly less depth.

Like all things, it requires balance. Pride vs. Modesty. Okabe consistently shows he will go above and beyond for the sake of others. How can she not be charmed by that?

On the other hand, i found that the anime let Okabe himself know a lot of things that he didn't originally. VN Okabe was unsure what wormholes were, and had more or less only heard about John Titor in passing. The anime version feels nerdier, and therefore less bland to me.
Not that VN Okabe is bland at all mind you, I just didn't know how else to put it.

Seeing the events from Okabe's point of view is great for immersion and definitely makes some parts hit harder, like the suzuha ending (which wasn't in the anime so perhaps it's a moot point) or when Mayuri first gets shot. On the other hand the anime added things, like Mayuri's clock breaking or the revelation of how much Feris' D-mail changed in epsiode 9, which were either non-existent or not given due reverence in the VN.
In my mind, the VN and anime are equal but different experiences, and I prefer the VN, since it gives me the same story in 9 hours instead of 40 with next to nothing I liked in it missed.
