Samurai 8

what went wrong? why did it flop so hard?
Getting axed at the 40-ish chapter mark sounds pretty bad.

Look at the top left corner of that cover, maybe that will give you some idea.

> tfw we never did get any official S8 art drawn by Kishi.

too bad, Ann was cute as fuck.

>Masashi AXEDkimoto
>not doing anything wrong
lmao

Dust settled
Kubo>Kishimoto

did Toriyama ever had failed manga like this,
since everyone wanted for him to make more Dragon Ball?

Samurai 8 is the proof Kishimoto alone can't do it!

No because he only did short series after Dragon Ball. He knew when to get out.

Nah, the only serializations by Toriyama were Slump and DB, both massive successes.

Honestly I gave it a chance and

1) Everything is too overdesigned
2) The artstyle makes everything look cluttered with no line weight or composition clearly separating foreground/background stuff so it all looks too busy and overlapping
3) the story/characters are way too tropey
4) felt like it was just going through motions and concepts too fast

I don't know what happened to Kishi as a writer but it's clear that he never recovered his edge after that terrible Ninja War arc

>The artstyle makes everything look cluttered with no line weight or composition clearly separating foreground/background stuff so it all looks too busy and overlapping
*RAUGH*

for me the immortal samurai bodies and videogame stuff were stupid ideas that should've never been used in a "Samurai manga".

I don't think the characters are tropey is bad, it how you use those trope to make the characters likable.

Samurai sword fight suppose to end in one hit, one hit in and you out.

pretty much, wtf was Kishi thinking with this shit?
hasn't he seen any chanbara movies?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 173.66K)

Shit we betrayed Kishi. Next he'll come to Boruto and burn it to the ground out of spite.

Boruto has been doing well without him, he better keep his distance.

>Ninja 9 - massive success
>Samurai 8 - massive flop
What will he do with the other 7 series now?

Attached: Gaara.full.678520.jpg (800x1152, 122.16K)

Reminder the Kubos Jet Artbook made more money with 50K+ copies sold, than all of samurai 8 volumes combined. KEK

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 145.52K)

The story and setting was massively convoluted at the beginning. It tripped over its feet right out of the gate with that.

Not enough fanservice for fans to support this shit. Also MC is corny

Okay but how did it end?

mc got infinite power and beat the bad guy

>what went wrong? why did it flop so hard?
fucking look at that main character design

There was only neko majin z AND jaco

main character looks like a shit

WSJ lost faith in Kishi and are now turning to Kubo. The reason Burn the Witch is getting an anime from the beginning is to turn it safe and soulless like the Boruto anime

but Okubo is good artist, albeit he should learn how to shade

>the immortal samurai bodies and videogame stuff
Hold on.
That sounds like a World Trigger ripoff.
Is it?

Funny you say that, there was a certain chapter that had a lot of people calling S8 a World Trigger ripoff. I don't have the picture comparison though.

He released a bunch of short manga after dragon ball that he admits weren't popular at all. They didn't go on long enough to get axed.

Doesn't matter if he is a good artist cause he's an absolutely shit mangaka. He works hard and draws a lot of details but those details makes his manga ugly and painful to look at. He is also one of the worst ever when it comes to drawing action scenes, all the fights in the series is just people teleporting around before someone is declared a winner.

Compare this to Eden's Zero. Boring as fuck characters and incredibly slow start.

A real pity. Porn of Ann would have been nice.

Stop shilling Fairy Tail in Space

It's way better than FT ever was.

He will read Burn The Witch while stealing ideas from God Kubo to pour it on his last standing abortion called Boruto. Or some shit like that.

Spending 16 chapters on the first planet was a mistake.

/thread

Honestly. It can NOT get any more humiliating than this.

I've still been reading it weekly but it's obviously getting the axe. I wonder what changes could have been made (without altering its essence as a whole) to make it work, art aside.

>It’s b-better now!
Nice battered wife syndrome

Sad day.

Was it really axed?

>He works hard and draws a lot of details but those details makes his manga ugly and painful to look at.
that's the same issue that One Piece has since the timeskip desu.

Yes

absolute dog shit art and designs

Boruto. I haven't read Samurai 8 but it's probably better than that garbage.

WT is what S8 looks like when worked on by a competent author and editor

Ah thanks, I'll be sure to save it this time even though I'll won't need to use it anymore now that S8's axed.

Someone posted the S8/WT comparison if you're still interested.

People will be dancing on its grave for weeks if not months

Which one is cancelled and which one has better sales from the get go?

I never got to read it.
Did Mememaru at least have a recognizable and visually intersting power/ability?

That right there was fucking stupid. Samurai are suppose to be kinda cool. This is not.

It didn't even introduce all of the titular 8 samurai.

Would be even better if the artistic skills of WT's artist were more than merely "serviceable" and less sterile looking.

I never quite understood this scene. Isn't that spine also the container of his consciousness, his soul? So by saying "I'll give you the key", he agrees to becoming, what, a spine in a jar for the rest of his existence?

Yeah, as someone who's pretty into WT, I'm in 2 minds about it. On one hand the artstyle is pretty stiff and plain. On the other hand such a clean style really fits the manga as it makes the tactical combat clear and easy to tell what's going on.

Thsat pic is from one of the first pages of chapter 1 right?
God, the dialogue was already boring and stupid from then. I read that pic and can't understand what the fuck is wrong with Kishi, you can't get people hooked with this.

When Ann prayed real hard, Hachimaru's soul sword could cut through other soul swords. Also Hachimaru became a god last chapter.

From what i gather a "Samurai" can only die when they accept defeat, meaning that guy basically die since his mission is over

I didn't notice it back then but rereading the 1st chapter it really sounds like a chuunibyou wrote the dialogue.

The biggest issue of this is there's a lot of relevant characters in the rank wars with some serious sameface.

Kishi got KUBO'D

>Also Hachimaru became a god last chapter.

Prologue End.

I haven't read any of the manga but that sounds pretty cool.

My man, it is the furthest thing from it. Don't waste your vision on this manga.

S8 honestly have a lot of good ideas but the execution was bad. The way those ideas deliver are through boring exposition.

It's really not.Try to read the first chapter and with just that give us your impresions

Nothing like the Rasengan or the Gomu-Gomu spam? Just a sword that breaks swords?

I kinda fell out of reading it during its hiatus and magazine move. Did they ever get back to the parallel universe stuff with other high level warriors and whatnot? All I could remember were tournaments, trials and dick comparison contests within their own organization, last when I read it.

>It didn't even introduce all of the titular 8 samurai
Holy shit kek
That's bad

Gosh I kind of wished. Apparently from the spoilers Hachi dies and Ann becomes a samurai. I really think she would've made a much better MC in comparison if the series started with her instead.

>what went wrong?
Space Samurai LMAO
No Warring States story
