Take any poll, especially online ones, with a heavy grain of salt. Even a casual bit of searching will show more than a handful of people openly admitting voting several times over. The reasoning given? The popularity polls are a measure of their passion as fans for the character. Mind you these aren't just teenagers doing this but more than a couple of 20-somethings, supposedly grown adults. Bakugo and Kirishima fans seem particularly prominent.

I don't know if these people are the cause or result of Bakugo's popularity. Bakugo is the most popular character. No disputing that but many of his fans are fucking insufferable and seem to take their passion to a concerning degree. Whenever I stumble upon a write-up or analysis of the character I often think "did we really read the same character here"? Which also brings up the question if their obsession stems from Horikoshi's writing or whatever headcanon they made for the character.
