I just finished reading through all of Wano up to this point. It's shocking how little has been accomplished in 60 chapters. Oda's been more concerned with shoehorning Japanese references than actually forwarding the story. In fact, the whole Island of Wano feels very uninteresting compared to other locations we've visited like Fishmen Island and WCI. Though I don't hold it too much against Wano. After all, Alabasta's pretty barren and uninteresting itself but it was still a great arc.

Oda has also all but given up on the Strawhats as protagonist in this story. Everyone else gets nothing to do besides play possum until they get their one cool panel time. There's little dynamism going on in their involvement. It's just flat. Even Zoro who everyone likes to say does a lot has just been running fucking circles until he got a new shitty sword and has played a purely reactive role and nothing else.

The Beast Pirates are total jokes. Too many Smile fruit users are just there to see how grotesque their designs are and nothing more. Kaido's got 0 agency in an arc where he's suppose to be the main antagonist. Just shove in even more characters into this already bloated arc, too, while you're at it.

And the ones Oda's been shilling and pushing to the center stage, the Kozuki family, are fucking lame. There's too much disconnect between me and Oden, yet his story is suppose to be the most intimate display seen in the series based on the Strawhats reaction to his tale. All I've seen is a selfish prick who ended playing second fiddle to both Whitebeard and Roger, the only good parts of his shitty flashback. His vassals are one note jobbers who just magically fell in love with him because he's "the coolest." They're less like loyal warriors and more like pathetic sycophants. Kin'emon is actually the only half way decent one since he has a defined background and reason for being loyal to Oden.

Does Sanji have the best genetics in the crew? Before the timeskip he didn't train at all and was equal to Zoro.

Hmm, I never really noticed this. I mean, I didn't consider Alabasta to be particularly interested or developed location, but now that I think about it, it's truly pretty bland compared to the average Grand Line OP (I still love all of its meme animals though). Maybe "world building" isn't what made OP so great after all.

But considering end of Zoro's fight with Mr. 1 and the fact that Jozu deflected Mihawk's slash, there would be some pottery if it was a diamond fruit user. Luffy is already a Garp clone. The Devil Fruit didn't limit his already base strength. He could only start using stuff like Soru once he created his gears which greatly enhanced his physicals.

Luffy has always meant to be portrayed as a legendary figure recaptured into reality.

Luffy's role in the narrative of One Piece is that in all corners of the world there is oppression and injustice and evil, but there is this one boy traveling the world as the embodiment of freedom who against all odds is able to defeat the great evils that no one else is able to defeat. That's what makes his triumphs so miraculous and legendary. It's Luffy's legend we are reading about. His legend is about doing what others cannot, his legend is about doing what others believe to be impossible.
This is the sense of "legend" that Oda tries to invoke throughout the series.

But to say Luffy's feats aren't his own or that he's not an underdog is grossly incorrect.
