Rewatching DBZ right now and the Frieza fight feels so final. It sucks that Namek Frieza would get jobbed by any living SS in the series and hundreds of other characters.
The biggest slap in the face is knowing about him getting easily beat by Trunks though right after he has a huge fight with Goku. Toriyama did him dirty back then.

Toriyama's greatest mistake was giving everything in the early stages of Dragon Ball (Z) a power level / set multiplier. It essentially makes it so there's no reason to ever not use the thing with a higher multiplier or "number." For example, there's no reason to use the defining saiyan trait of Oozaru over SS1 just because it has a lower multiplier.
Power levels were always something that was to be considered irrelevant, since a character could hide and change their power with emotions / exhaustion, but these multipliers crippled the series and made it so, logically speaking, a character has no reason to use SS1 over SS2, for example. Which in turn made it so people like Vegeta and Goku had to quickly ass-pull the form in order to stay relevant.
Things get even more bonkers once you take into account the non-canon spinoff that is DBS, characters like Goku have NO reason to ever use anything other than SSB; and whenever he uses any other super saiyan form it's laughable and throws away any stakes or seriousness the fight has.
