I am about to watch Eureka Seven AO. Why does Yas Forums call it dogshit? It's not possible for them to screw it up that bad.

Don't. You have the benefit of other user's hindsight, it doesn't have to be like this.
Having seen nearly 2,000 anime I can say with confidence E7:AO is the worst sequel ever created. Don't waste your time with it.
It is, but you're correct about going into it with no previous expectations.
Gachimuchi Seven fans never get old.
Ooooh boy. You have no idea how you're gonna regret that.
I would advise you to watch Pocket full of Rainbows before AO. It makes the experience much more enjoyable.
Make sure to post an apology here when you're done.
What are other shit sequels?
Orphen Revenge and Psycho Pass 2, just to name few of mine.
Senpai the silver wing.
>I am about to watch Eureka Seven AO
>I am about to watch the trainwreck that fucking retconned itself at the end
Don't
I'll gladly eat anything LAST EXILE.
But yeah, it was OKish at most.
Who owns it right now? S3 is definitely a never ever now.
Shingeki no Bahamut
>It's not possible for them to screw it up that bad.
heh
P4GA
>I can say with confidence E7:AO is the worst sequel ever created.
A challenger appears
Don't do it user, you have so much to live for!
It's almost decent, but it has nothing of what made the original series good.
>E7:AO is the worst sequel ever create
I originally watched E7 a few years ago, but avoided AO like the plague due to user's warnings until recently a friend convinced me that we should watch it. So far it hasn't been as much bad as it has been forgettable. I'm also scratching my head why the year is 2025 all of a sudden and I'm expecting some kind of retarded time travel plot.
>I'm expecting some kind of retarded time travel plot.
Oh, you.
>Oh, you.
Well, that's ominous. I know bits and pieces from reading threads here on Yas Forums over the years, but I've been trying to go in blind in the hopes of forming my own opinion. Now I'm scared. Maybe I should drop it to avoid scarring myself for life.
Is it really worse than Darker than Black Gemini or whatever it was called?
haven't watched Eureka 7 since 2010 or so, might be time.
and now to derail with the best OP of the anime. youtube.com
I never watched dtb s2 because of the reputation, but did AO assassinated the ending of the original, and that's a horrid crime
>best OP of the anime
> not CHERRY BLOSSOM CHERRY BLOSSOM
Sorry, user, but you're wrong. Linking actual best OP youtube.com
>but did it retroactively ruin the first season *
Fuck me I forgot half the sentence
AO shat all over everything good about E7. Including making Dewey right.
>Darker than Black S2
user I'm very confident there wasn't a season 2
I'll just say they do time, dimension and alt-reality travel altogether. It gets as retarded as you could expect. Actually, it gets so retarded that it becomes enjoyable once you drop your expectations.
First half is a fairly mediocre monster of the week show. Second half shits all over the original series' ending and message with absolutely crazy plot points. Its not worth watching as a standalone show, and it definitely isn't worth watching as an E7 fan.
Suou is delicious.
That's all I need to remember.
Excuse me...
Do you mean Mary Suou?
I don't remember them. Were they in Darker than Black?
No, I mean Suou Suouvichenko Suouchosvsky Suouchenovich
user must be making up things.
But she exists, unlike season 3
Have you ever heard of Franxx?
I honestly hated them all. Why is a show thats basically a huge tribute to dance music got openings that are all more generic Jpop. You couldn't be much further off the mark
>a huge tribute to dance music
If you listen to the soundtrack, they mostly use orchestral stuff with a smaller number of techno beats. The references to DJs are there, but it is mostly used to add colour to the setting along with its staple of counter culture. Orchestral scores (that are excellent thanks to the brilliance of Sato Naoki) really take the centre stage.
>enjoyable once you drop your expectations
I can generally appreciate "it's so good it's bad", but I'm scared it'll sully my fondness for the original. I guess time will tell.
DONT DONT DONT
Just keep you Eureka 7 memories with you and don't destroy them.
If you just do what everyone else does and vehemently deny its legitimacy you'll be alright. But the more you enjoy E7 the more AO will sit uneasily the further you go. Hearsay is the creator was extremely butthurt about how happy the original ending is and has been trying to inject terrible endings in every iteration since, especially if they can undermine the original ending
I've read these claims as well, but I'm honestly thinking it's a case of Bones not understanding what made people love the series. I've only read the synopsis for the new films and dismissed them without oven watching them so I'm not an expert on how bad they really are. That said, my impression when reading about the "IT WAS ALL A DREAM" plot of the new films, I get the feeling that they're looking at EVA and its 2deep4you plot and want to make something in that vein themselves. Often I get the feeling that authors, and people in general, mistake good sci-fi for having to be convoluted to be good and thought provoking so they can feel superior for "getting it" and waking over interepretations for all eternity.
Yea I thought there was too much orchestral stuff as well though. I mean it's basically the entire naming convention of everything and "counter culture" (or whatever the fuck) runs throughout the whole thing. It's just kind of lame that even in this context it's still gotta be more fucking Jpop
It's top 3 worst sequel
1. Virgin Souls
2. AO
3. DtB S2
I understand your sentiment even though I don't share it. Personally, I enjoy the orchestral score a lot and it did quite a bit for my enjoyment of the series.
>It's not possible for them to screw it up that bad.
its not that bad once you turn off your brain
In Eureka Seven AO case it's not that they didn't understand what fans loved, they didn't even understand what the series was about. For the sequel they did not call back any of the original writers, not even the main composer, and brought in a completely new staff that had their own ideas and essentially rewrote all the lore and characters. People blame the director for making it a Rahxephon 1.5 rather than a E7 sequel, but I have not sources about how much influence he actually has.
>People blame the director
I've only read what anons write; that Dai Sato is a bit of a George Lucas and that there was a host of talented people around him that made the original E7 possible. After its success he got too much of a free reign and that resulted in what we get now.
>worst sequels ever
>no one has mentioned Rebuild cashgrabs
Dai Sato didn't write AO. Do you mean Tomoki Kyoda?
woosh
Yes, I mixed them up.
the ordering can be debated but those all deserve to be in the top 5 for sure.
What are you talking about?
not technically a sequel
but Gun Slinger Girl S2
To be honest, it is not as bad a sequel as DTB: Gemini of the meteor.
The OST for E7:AO is absolutely fantastic.
youtube.com
It has very, very little else to redeem it. The good art style, amazing OST, and a wet diarrhea shit of a plot and literally undoes much of the best development of E7 and somehow even itself.
So did DTB S2 more or less. Everything people liked about the first season was gone. And so was the hopeful ending, just completely fucked over for no reason.
Thanks for proving my point, I really do think it's got to be the worst s2 ever created. They had it all in the bag and still managed to fuck it up.
Wait there's a sequel? I just finished watching it this morning, and the ending was already garbage. Don't tell me it gets worse?
