Cloning

How do you feel about cloning, and it's use in anime/manga? Things you enjoy/dislike about it and any specific examples?

I enjoy it when it's done well and not just as an asspull to bring back characters or something.

I love cloning. Unfortunately, I have a real bad habit with stories I write for myself where I occasionally either use science or magic to split and have "both" versions of a character I really like, the original is free to have a relationship and settle down with a happy ending while the other is free to continue how the character was before or join up with whoever they have to thank, especially if they have any mental issues the knowledge of them not being the real one now help keep intact.

For example, doing this magically for an edgelord would logically completely separate any of the "I know you're still in there" and leave an entertaining husk now full entirely of its negativity while saving their original self from tragedy. I can literally have my cake and eat it too, though I'm not sure how people or Yas Forums in particular would receive that.

Of course, don't use it just for cheating death in a sense. Establish, ironically, their differences before you make that decision.

Yes obviously meant that, but I guess I'm tired of the whole sibling/clone/twin reveals after all that Gundam I just watched.

Also he was right

I really need to finish the game of this.

I forgot how terrible the MC was when I watched the show. He was complete garbage.

>after death reveal
What if a brainy character that actually created some living experiments is strategically killed when by themselves because they're vital intelligence for the heroes, but they prepared a timed activation of a hidden foreshadowed biologically enchanced clone with scientific ethics shut off and its own separate identity simply wishing to continue their work, effectively making them a different character, who even insists on being referred to as such while sharing certain personality traits with the original?

Does that "pass"? As long as you make it clear it's not just an excuse, but something they would actually think of along with hiding for obvious reasons while alluding to what isn't demonstrably the same, the clone should be accepted as their own character. You could have a snack and similar conversation about others and life with, but years ago memories they know aren't theirs depressingly don't get nearly the same reaction for example. They also might not have a problem with making easily pissed off mind controlled monsters to sic on the bad guys until either are dead, while the real one would have felt awful imagining how distressed their existence would be.

Yes, I'm obsessed. This shit requires fuck loads of consideration and I take very seriously. My standards for others writing cloning are no different.

Damn user, I just expected some 'fuck my own clone' level of response, but it's also a nice read, your responses.

You played lots of KH didn't you?

Not that user but what a mess. So many reincarnation or clone shit in that franchise.

I did and Nobodies are my favorite idea from that series despite what an embarrassing clusterfuck everything became in the way of poor Sora and Kairi getting their happily ever after when Riku and Mickey together are more than capable of taking his place.

Clones are the most fascinating and potential heavy characters I can imagine. Do they become edgelords unable to stand their "fake" existence and lash out at everything, ultimately becoming an enemy or more stubborn to become their own person like Roxas was? If someone's now freed dark side were to see their exact image living happily with their own built family despite what hate and pain has been inflicted on them, do they feel regret at having been the "wrong" fate and unable to move on for their loved ones and even manga that change themselves or do they descend even deeper now believing themselves a necessary evil to pursue and destroy worse, born with no choice? There's so much you can DO.

Feel like the Spiral manga handled the subject well. It explores some technicalities of cloning and its effect on the ones born from that predicament.
Protagonist even initially shrugs off the discovery as being inconsequential.

You haven't even seen what the fuck they did Yozora/Versus XIII Noctis along with Stella in The Final World yet.

Oh God

Back when they clones that sheep we got into a debate for it in school for a project. The anti clone side didn't really seem to put in too much research and just kept saying "WHAT IF THEY CLONE HITLER" while the pro side (Me) got a bunch of info on how the process actually worked, plus went into the whole nature vs nurture thing and context of events that lead to a Hitler existing and that even if he did come back as a clone it wouldn't amount to much probably because he's a dude who lost a war and not a goddamn evil wizard or some shit. The moderator ultimately declared it a tie and Im still pissed.

Yeah but did you consider what if they cloned Hitler? But honestly sounds kinda sketchy, like it's highschool and they didn't want any side to feel bad.

REPLICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Based Asch. He deserved better

The only thing anyone in that game deserved is a black eye.

English Sasuke voices way too many assholes and my brother and I couldn't stop joking about Asch. It just makes Marth to sound completely unnatural and forces me to change SSB's audio to Japanese if Ike didn't already.

Also, I hate Naruto at this point, but Noriaki Sugiyama just sounds amazing when he's freaking out.

And lots of love

First half Luke deserved to have his fucking tongue cut off. Second half Luke didn't deserve all the shit he got from his "friends".

I mean Ill pump a lot of into into Tear's tits. But generally speaking they're all awful.

I'll just be honest and say I was there for Bump of chicken. But yeah all the characters were awful.

It was pretty funny when Lockon died and got conveniently replaced by his twin brother who was never mentioned before that point.

Yeah but Lockon 2 wasn't just a replacement for Lockon 1. He was a whole different character with his own motivations, personality and goals. And it's not like he talked much detail about his family either anyways. So having a twin isn't TOO out of place.

Lockon 2 was so boring they had to give him a 2 episode romance with some literal who. Also him killing ali al saachez was cheap especially how Lockon acted that whole season.

>it's use

Yeah ruined one of the best moments in that series for me.

How is Tear bad?

Tear and Guy are the only decent ones.

I've always been a big fan of homunculi. There's something about their blank slate nature that gives them so many opportunities to become interesting characters. I'm not too big a fan of cloning major characters since they just make for cheesy boss fights or cheap respawns.

I'm a fan of those cheesy clones vs clones boss fight. Just like the drama of it.

It's one of the best I've played of the franchise, it does drag on with a lot of back tracking but worth it. I played the 3DS version but I wish they did an HD release like with Symphonia. I've been meaning to watch the anime seem as how it has the original Japanese voices.

It sucks that I share my name with him but he gets more tolerable in the 2nd half.

>but he gets more tolerable in the 2nd half.

He gets worse! It just goes in the opposite direction. At least when he was a jerk he had a pair. In the second half he just becomes an emo little whipping boy for something that wasn't his fault no matter how much the game tries to say it is.

Didn't know that.

I DON'T WANNA DIE

Someone's double failing to do his role and get his master killed. Now he needs to pretend that his master is alive in front of everyone and his sister.

>Hiro making vague comments about waiting for their parents to return to the garden orphanage
>Zorome episode weirdness with granny
>Kokoro wondering "were we really created by Papa?"
>a few episodes later Hakase infodump episode "yep the kids are all clones"
not being clones would have been far darker and more interesting.
>so why did they make all the kids unique when they could just repeat clone the high performing "double digit" ones and not bother repeating the dropouts, especially when the dystopia has a massive conformity boner?

Abyss is super overrated as a Tales game. There are SNES RPGs that are more fun to play.

Okay

Based

Nothing states that a fake can't surpass the original.

Dumbasses.

>a fake can't surpass the original.
Go away Shirou

I'm not too big on Raildex but I love these qts. They're neat characters, blurring the line between individual and collective and I love Misaka's relationship with them. She really treats them like family. Also that's 9982, no 10032.

There is one instance of that happening.

Disgusting.

That poor woman.

You literally misquoted.

She deserved it

>short haired clone
With hellfire.

Reminder that she won after they merged back together. The girl kept both her memories and the memories of the THOT original, she goes by the clone's name and she cut her hair short like the clone. Short hair chads won.

Definitely the best use of clones I’ve seen in an anime. Any others that use it as well as this one?

Indeed, he was naive and unlearned in the ways the world worked but at least he had attitude, a perky personality and always had a response to anything.

Afterwards he lost his personality and turned hollow so that the japanese public could better self-insert as.

Sidonia no Kishi has a similar use, a squad of pilots are all clones of each other.

*short hair fags
