I can't believe Kabru went from a character people used to mock relentlessly to arguably the one character in DM who got his shit together.
Dungeon Meshi
He has become more sane as time went on and become a little less murder hobo
His character introduction made him seem genuinely autistic, he basically felt like amoral Laius. I still wish his party didn't disappear as soon as the canaries showed up though, loved those guys.
Dumb twatterfag.
Captain Misurn definitely made into my top 5 of fictional elves and he didn't even have to stab satan in the shin to achieve this.
I want a hot elf to dom me
>Everyone is in agreement Laius is a red herring and Marcille is the one who will fuck it up
Except don't forget Izutsumi also wants something very very much. I would say Chilchack probably wants his wife too.
Only Senshi could be considered resistant to the demon's call because he is satisfied being part of the dungeon and Laius partially healed his trauma.
This. I wanted to see more of their misadventures as they went further down. But realistically, their misadventures were caused by the party's ineptitude, so Kui pairing him with the canaries was a way for her to more easily write a way for Kabru to achieve his goals.
milkers
They all have some extremely basic wants, that's why demons wouldn't want them.
Except Marcille who actually has a huge thirst of knowledge.
Marcille' wants to save her friends from death, with a side goal of bettering the world.. she's basically thistle 2.0
I want them to have half-brown children.
Yeah, and look at thistle's dungeon, longass time, demon still not out and looking for new recruits.
It doesn't cut it.
So to me it's very obvious that Kui put something in the story Kabru tells us (the one distilled from Misurn's version) that is incomplete, misleading, or wrong (aside from the fact that the elf that rescued Misurn is Kabru's adopted mother). That's why the chapter started out with such a complex setup. What is it?
One candidate: How long ago was Misurn's story? Kabru just says "a long time ago"; that is exactly the kind of detail that Misurn would not spare.
My guess is its so there's some details that can be filled in later. Like how long he was out. Or if there was anyone else important as part of the team.
Kabru seems to have changed as a character.
He's absolutely ruthless and efficient at slaughtering/assassinating people, but hopelessly incompetent vs monsters resulting in consecutive party wipes.
But he was trained in sword combat by an ex-Canary, a professional dungeon destroyer, who knew he wanted to take out dungeons. Did she train him wrong as a joke, or did she want Kabru to be occupied with culling the criminal scum that settle around dungeons while staying skill gated from actually delving too deep?
I think the relationships between the Canaries is critical since Misurn's desires seemed largely centered around them, not to mention their involvement in his constructed reality seems confusing/unexplained
well she never wanted him to delve into dungeons to begin with so it might've been a convoluted attempt to discourage him
His ruthless and calculating side have been toned way down. Then again, he did grab the captain and try to kamikaze into the ground with him.
She was basically his only opponent for years so he became very good at killing humanoids but useless against monsters.
And he persisted yes. It was supposed to discourage him. She says as much.
Mikepas sure looks like a son of the House of Feanor to me
could probably bash some shins in himself
Does anyone know where to find the raw chapter? I want to make a screen wallpaper out of the demon bursting out of the dungeon, but would prefer to have it in Japanese
This page specifically. I've made it blank for now, i'll see if I can find anything interesting to put in the text box.
I think Kui just didn't plan out Kabru's character in too much depth, but he ended up more involved than intended.
Mercille if anything was the red herring
She was introduced first as student in labyrinth, previusly dark elf is the master. And she outsmarted him. Laius instead didnt study magic at all, only marcille teach him something and then after that he start to see ghost or the winged lion
You know who will be a surprise instead? and also make sense? someone who is similar to laius but had mercille background!
Like... guess who
Farlyn becoming the new dungeon master would be bad storytelling, we don't know a single thing about her at this point.
It would be a lot more interesting to have a familiar character like Laius, Marcille, or even Kabru succumb to the temptation.
As he said himself: too many characters.
Farlyn clearly is a parallel to the Lamia (top of a loved one-bottom of a monster) of anything it's more foreshadowing for Laius becoming the dungeon master.
The thing is we knew a lot about her without even seeing her
She is like his brother laius but use magic and understand dungeon like marcille
Marcille instead is an elf no better than misurn. while laius is the other top contender, but is not expert in magic like marcille or farlyn, he was also criticised by the winged lion, kabron, misurn (but he only heard kabron pov) but himself asked why him
Kabru is so disgusted by monsters that he ignored studying them during his training. That's his weakness and I think it's coherent with his character.
well, there is nothing to suggest it, but some canaries could be Marcille's family.
Heck, it's even possible for Misurn to be her dad. They burried him when he disappeared in the dungeon, and when he emerged after all, it might have been some time and he was such a a wreck, that they might have kept it secret form little Marcille.
That could be a reason why "elven family tied and shit" were intentionally hidden.
>Like both itsuzumi and misurn
Damn it all guys I'm turning in both a furry and a faggot
does anyone have the author's blog?
Farlyn is Marcille's loved one too. Plus Laius was closer to King Derghal with Thistle-Marcille at his side in his own dungeon master vision
it's on the credits page of the chapter
thank you kindly
I think this happened with Namari and Sureau.
She used them as the traitors at the start, but too late she decided that she want them to return and thus she needed to make elaborate excuses why they left at that moment even if they cared for Farlyn.
The explanation works with Shiro/Sureau, but with Namari, it is too much of a stretch. She isn't supposed be a heartless bitch but in effect she looks like one.
I love kabru and he did really changed
He was introduced as very likeable character who was smart enough to have his party in love with him since he knew what they need to be told making him at least a manipulative person.
He then start saying he hated laius and farlyn since they were too good to be true and they must have a second agenda who nobody noted by him.
He then realised he lacked both in experience and judgement, and become 100% better
i wonder if laius's desire to count the kots nipples is strong enough to unleash armageddon
Loved one doesn't mean love interest. Laius has already accepted he could live with Farlyn's new appearence, there's that one page where he imagine she could work behind a counter but I can't find It.
Namari followed most of the original concept for those who left the party. It's Sureau that got rewritten totally.
>actually he didn't leave, he was super duper in love and went in to search her
Honestly, Namari's explanation was solid if a little cold. We even see her arguing with Laius about money in one of the flashbacks, so this was just the last straw that sent her off.
Meanwhile, Sureau completely ditched the party that was already planning to save Farlyn so that he could get a few more friends to try and save her, and didn't even think to work together.
Sureau being an ass who doesn't trust his friends is 100% confirmed
I like Shuro's reasoning because it makes him out to be a huge dipshit that never had much trust or affection for anyone in the crew except Farlyn.
the only reason everyone is alive is because he is a competent enough fighter
He just doesn't know shit about monsters
The Laius team had just party wiped and lost 1-2 members. Why go in with that same team, when Sureau can get the job done with his own more powerful crew? Is probably what he thought. Plus he didn't like being around Laius.
He's hyper focused on humanoids. Note how much trouble he had with just butchering a sheep this chapter
Sureau Is better written than Namari, we can agree. But reading the first chapter it's clear the reason they leave is more in line to Namari's opinion and that Sureau's motivatons were rewritten.
She would still help if she wasn't a cunt and cared about Farlyn as she is purported to be. But the "she tries to help her own way by paying the peeps processing the found corpses" just doesn't work. The sloppy part is also how Chilchack tried to reason she did the right thing - unbuyable.
But in her case, there was no option to retcon her like Sureau too. It would be weird to do that twice.
maybe Laius could have talked to his sister if he hadn't slashed her fucking throat
Namari is cute and she's friends with the main cast but she's not "I would die for these people" friendly with them
He could bring in his harem and do the stuff together with the original party.
I was gonna make a lewd joke but this just looks comfy.
He's always been one of the few DM characters who had his shit together, his trigger is just anyone who desires exploiting dungeons. It's just now he's got an elf who was willing to give up some info of the hows and whys of dungeon function.
>mug
14/10
>their respective tastes
>soft, chewy, sweet & tangy, musky (owO), poisonous, bitter & tangy, tasty, sweet, crunch, smooth, laius
I still can't wrap my head around pic related considering she did exactly that by leaving a companion for dead because there wasn't enough money in it for her
what more rumor was going to be there as Namari already was a whore that betrayed her party for money?
>that mug
i-is that th real translation?
I'm almost betting we're going to find out his lack of desires has made him way more open and free with information compared to the other elves
BTW, did you notice how you could spot that Kabru and Misurn were ahead of the main party in previous chapter already?
1. The cavern with backpacks is less frozen and we know it got colder after dragon left/died, so the freezing should get worse with time.
2. when main party arrived in Ice Golem Chapter, they note that something has been rumaging in their things - back then they presumed it was a monster.
Basically I'm a genius for pointing it out last month, thanks.
>Did she train him wrong as a joke
Well given how much she didn't want him to go away, I wouldn't discard that possibility.
Yeah. Chilchack defending her was supposed to make her look better but as said, it makes no sense.
>Heck, it's even possible for Misurn to be her dad
Dumb speedreader, Misurn missed his love when he joined the Canaries, he couldn't be married
Ryoko's writing Is usually on point but that part is a bit sloppy
Well in the succ chapter it’s also implied that Kabru and the Captain is ahead of them.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure it was a Barometz, meaning it's more a sheep shaped vegetable/fruit. He was even talking about how it's anatomy didn't really make sense like its ribs were just an extension of its hide and its organs were free floating.
I thought about that. The bell gag was a real cureveball, and it turned out wrong (but important anyway). But when compared to the times in the journal entry, it was possible for them to meetup before Laius' team reached the door.
The thing I don't get is that while they say all the food is gone, Marcille or Laius says all the other stuff is here. When Kabru clearly took cooking implements.
Also the shapeshifter fukking got its head asploded by Marcille.
I'd have to go back and give her chapters a re-read but it feels like she thought Laius was a basket case and needed to find workd that would get her properly re-equipped (which is understandable given the feel of the early chapters before Senshi starts backing up his claims) even if she still cared for the party as a whole. Sureau is the only complete fucking asshole
oh, right, that was theory that only worked before this chapter.
how can you even assume I missed such a clearly stated thing in the most recent chapter, faggot? I simply wasn't thinking right when i wrote that comment. Damn I'm fed up with these cretins throwing the speedreader meme all the time
I thought so for a bit but when someone else pointed out that Kabru was in the panel with Sureau getting annoyed by the bell I dropped that idea. Turns out that panel was actually inaccurate.
Yeah they found a camp site there.
I get the sense the recent arc was only plotted out near when the dragon was going to show up. Like around Grilling. Had to change a few characterizations from the start. Perhaps Kabru's adjustment is an artifact of the editor and author going over things. Like if Kabru was real popular, make him sympathetic more. Or Kui starts to like to draw one character over another.
