9 out of 10 is an excessively exaggerated ratio but there are definitely times when editor meddling have seriously hurt a series. Recent example would be Yui Kamio. Editor wanted a romcom so it start out as a mediocre one. As negative feedback came in, the mangaka switched genres to what he usually does which is shonen battles and it improved drastically. Just not enough to save it from an axe.

It sold above 10k and regularly ranked above Samurai 8. I wasn't a huge fan of it but there were some good moments in it and I feel like it would've performed much better if it was a sukeban battle manga from the very start.
