Dragon Ball's influence permeates far beyond manga and anime.

Devilman influenced Evangelion which in turn influenced everything you've been watching for the past two decades if you aren't a boxed in shounenspic. Why stop there? Getter Robo was the quintessential hot blood mecha and you can see its influence in Gurren Lagann, Gun/Diebuster, Symphogear, G Gundam, etc. You can shit on Go Nagai all you want but he's respected by everybody in the industry for a reason. When we talk about influence are we talking about how it inspired other authors/how it introduced new concepts. Because dragonball success (emphasis on success) was definitely influential for battle shonen, but it's contribution to the genre is really overstated. It really didn't do anything that hokuto no ken and kinnikuman didn't already do. At best it popularized battle shonen (and that would be a stretch too since hnk was a cultural phenomenon just as much everywhere except for America)

Not that user, but the only official release of the Devilman manga in North America is the 2 volume classic collection by Seven Seas Entertainment. They removed a few chapters from the original manga and instead spliced in Shin Devilman chapters. The story is still easy to follow, but it's a very arbitrary edit.

Literally almost 90% of shonen becomes dragon ball when the series advances. And shonenshit is relevant even now, it's true that dragon ball influence is less important when compared to eva or devilman but the reason for why the autism for shonenshit is still strong is thanks to writers taking inspiration on it. And while dragon ball isn't that inspirational outside of shonen, it has a lot of references in other animes and mangas too.

Shounen is just a demographic there is a lot more too shounen then stuff like Dragon Ball, One Piece and Naruto.

A show can be influential without currently being popular, and just because a theme or idea was first introduced in an earlier series does not mean it couldn't be popularized by a later one. Many tropes found in Dragon Ball can be traced to earlier shonen series, but Dragon Ball made them more widespread. Dragon Ball is undeniably more popular than Devilman, but the tropes introduced in Devilman and Go Nagai's works in general are far more influential. Manga as it is today would not exist without Go Nagai.

As I said, nothing that hasn't already been done. You might as well say every shonen becomes hnk. Also a genre having a rabid and vocal/retarded fanbase doesn't make it more relevant or noteworthy than other genres. If we were to write a history of costume we would have to write about dragon ball probably, but if we had to write a history of the medium it would be little more than a footnote
